Tristan shoots a deer!!!
« on: October 23, 2013, 07:15:09 PM »
3rd season and I thought that if he didn't get one this year, I might lose him to discouragement.  He's watched his older brother get 2 in that time and me get 3 so he was REALLY hoping to get one.  It was shot about 45 minutes ago.  A spike.  We think he hit it a bit back and it looks like liver on the ground so we backed and came home to give it time.  The deer stood up as high as it could on it's hind legs, came back down, hunched a very little and gave a hop and then went on a slow circling trot into the woods with his tail up.  The doe with him followed him and came back out into the open after about 2 minutes and stared us down about 5 minutes before exiting stage right.

1morebuck is on his way and then we'll get to tracking.  Updates coming.

Taken about 20 minutes before the deer started to show up

While the others are uploading, a description.  A doe came out and walked across the field.  About 2 minutes later, she came flying back out from where she came.  I knew a buck had pushed her and got Tristan ready.  Sure enough, a spike swaggered out like he owned the place.  Tristan made a good shot.  Quartering towards and he got one lung and liver.  1morebuck and a friend came out and tracked him down.  He didn't go far, maybe 50 yards.  I'll upload my cell phone pics when they get to photobucket and a couple 1morebuck took with his fancy camera later.  I am very proud.  Like I said above, I am very happy he finally got a deer.  It has been a challenging 3 seasons trying with timing issues, him sleeping through sets because of his meds, spooking deer off, etc.  I am tired but happy

War paint.  I swear, he made it seem at times like this was the only reason he wanted to hunt :chuckle:

And one more thing, there had better not be one single comment about hunter orange!!!  :chuckle: He had it on.  We returned home and he took it off.  It was in his pocket while we were tracking because him and his brother had to stay back and they were goofing around until we found the deer.

Congratulations to your son.  I think that smile says it all.
