I record in my journal when I see bucks running does. This is not bucks with does, but nose to the ground trailing. It is a very short time frame, in the last ten years during the time of November 19-23. I know you will find bucks with swollen necks, stink etc over a much greater time frame, well into December, but that is when I see in the day time, active rutting behavior, in the Deer Park, Clayton area. My son who archery hunts most years feels the week after modern late buck is the best time to hunt. That time is now closed to archery hunting here, used to be open. There is a reason the season is closed in most areas to most weapon choices, between November 20 to 24.

I usually see the most mature buck activity Nov 20-25.  Last year was an exception, with the most mature buck activity being between Nov 10-15.  The last 4 years I've averaged around 25-30 days in the stand during the late season, so I like to think I have a pretty good idea of whats going on in the area I hunt (101).

THANKS WDFW !!!

If I could choose only 5 days to be in the woods it would be nov 18-22.
