What are bear eating and where are they at this time of year?
« on: October 24, 2013, 01:00:23 AM »
I usually chase bear in August until deer season starts... But where might a find one of those critters this time of year? I got a buddy who is joining the army and wants to go hunt with me before he goes.

Whatever they can find to eat.   Gut piles, Mountain Ash, elderberries, homestead orchards, ants.

Acorns and orchard fruit if you're close to areas that have these.

I see less bears this time of year. They must move around a lot less to conserve energy prior to going to their den... But I'm no expert

Well big guy...we are going to head out and cover some ground ourselves. No real plan other than to hunt where there have been bears and see if we can find one out in come cuts grubbing, stumping, or just meandering around looking for some food. Hoping to be more lucky than good.

Oh....and if you shoot another baby one wipe the milk off its lips and bring it on over. You know where I'm at!

Find a spot with a bunch of shredded up stumps and use one of Rick's fawn in distress calls.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

There were quite a few blackberries left on the vines while we dragged the wifes buck to the truck.  Saw a few nice sized piles of poo as well...100% blackberries it looked like.  Same thing last time she took a deer out of there only that time it was late buck.  Actually saw the bear in there last year eating frozen blackberries, but of course that was late buck and season was then closed.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
