Blacktail & Logging
« on: October 25, 2013, 10:43:41 AM »
So I have been hunting the same clearcut/ timber for the last 3-4 years.  I went up there yesturday and the gate was opened :yike:, normally its a 3 mile hike in. So when I got to the back where I see the majority of deer there was a logging company in there building road and falling trees :bash:. So I decided to setup on the next ridge over (1/4 mile) needless to say I didn't see any deer yesturday  :pee:. Any suggestions?

Its also awesome when you make it 5 miles in to the area you want to hunt and you see a loger road hunting in a truck. Must be nice to have a key to the gate.
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!

Logging helps keep the deer population up. More feed and bedding areas.  The more logging the better. I'm glad to see more road building as well. More access to new areas.

If it weren't for loggers you wouldn't have any clearcuts to look for deer in or even roads to drive or hike in on. Just my opinion.

I appreciate controlled logging as well... makes for healthier deer in more numbers (BIG bears too!). Problem is, all these "new" roads are always locked... I don't mind spur roads being locked or barricaded father up, but at the main entrance...? I love a good boot to ground hunt, but, 20-30 miles of roads from the main gate is a lil much...

If you find a road and the gate is unlocked during Firearm season, my  :twocents: is just stay out or walk in... These ass hat companies don't place signs saying "no vehicles" or "walk in only" etc. etc.. then when they leave your locked in... Thats why I love Archery.. gates open all September... at least in Sno County!

I understand what your saying about the gates but you can't blame the timber companies when they have to clean up all the illegal garbage dumping.  All these gates are now needed.  My family owns several pieces of equipment and have had them vandalized while sitting on green roads with no gates.  Your talking big bucks for repair.  Gates help protect equipment and save on the garbage cleanup fees.

Sounds like this is getting a little off topic, I wasn't complaining about loggers I have family that owns a logging company I was just wondering more if you would rather hunt the new clear cut where they have been clearing or the older clear cut?

Stick with your original plan ...hunt the same area as you always have ...deer do no careless about logging machinery ....I have see deer standing right in the heat of a logging operation ...bucks too !!! I want to see logging back the way it used to be ...wide open ...logging is the best thing for blacktail habitat !! more clear cuts means more deer
