I tried to contact M&R a few years back about getting a permit and they never bothered to get back to me. I figured "forget it". I live in Spanaway anyway, long drive but was willing to do it since I am from Forks and still have family I could stay with and used to always hunt on the tree farm.

Keep us posted on what it is like out there, now. Back in the prime, of course, it was some great deer hunting. I don't think I have been out on M&R land since 1995.

I am in the same situation as you.  Bought a permit, but going in blind.  I will be doing some scouting in the next couple of months.  So far, my biggest issue is finding a place to stay the night because you aren't allowed to overnight inside farm.  I have a tent trailer, but nearest campground i found is something like 20 miles to the entrance gate.  Closest I campgrounds found are Clallam river, Bear creek, or (Lyre river?) (pillar point is posted no overnight).  Any chance anyone knows of an informal CG somewhere?  Maybe up Twin?

I hunted it alot back in the 90's when they charged like 8 or 10 bucks a day to drive through the gate, It was a rare day that you saw fewer then 10 deer and alot of days we would see 20+. Saw some pretty decent bucks in there as well. Good luck.

Definitely not the case anymore, the deer population in there has been going downhill since the late 90's, they manage the tree farm for trees and care less about the animals. My family has hunted there for eons and a buddy of mine was a road builder in there for 13 years and now the log truck drivers in my family are in there quite frequently and all cannot believe they don't see many deer and almost no elk. I remember when there were several elk herds on the south side and you could see 20-40+ deer per day and how your lucky to see a couple deer and no elk, the grouse must be immune to the stuff they spray in there cause there seems to be plenty of them. If I were to hunt in there again it would be behind the gates on the north side of the hwy behind the headquarters, there seems to be a few more deer on that side anymore. Good luck and word of caution if you see an old cross eyed fella wearing a beanie don't get on his bad side !! His name is Joe and can be a real .......... I'll let you form your own opinion !!

when they had the raffle elk tags several years back I was lucky enough to draw one. the elk were very impressive. with the help of a good friend who knew the area I harvested a beautiful 6x7.  didn't see very many deer.  but this was close to 10 years ago...  olsons resort in seiku let me park my truck and camper in their lot and use the facilities for a fair fee. and its not far from the gate.
is it tweeker season yet?

Haha yeah do not get on Joe's bad side he is an awkward fella to say the least and will make you feel like ur doing something wrong just for being in there however if you spend enough time in there you will run across him he lives at the mouth of the river and drives back and forth from pa daily. As far as camping try to find a friend at silverking and bum off them for hunting season otherwise i would probably camp at deep creek off the dirt road for the night and drive from there is only five minutes if that.

The elk tags are worth having but 250 bucks for a spike or forked horn deer isn't worth it to me. I agree with another poster in that I would hunt the north side for deer and Joe can be a real A-hole. Good luck and hope you get your moneys worth.
