Gunsmith for STAR 9mm question
« on: October 25, 2013, 01:15:05 PM »
This is a star model 28DA 9mm. It is a nice piece except that it jams. It had been a contender to replace the 45 ACP the service used and the fact it jams is the reason it lost out to Berreta. Well at least one of the reasons. I won't sell it to any one because of that reason.

What it does is eject straight up at 12:00 and you can see by the ejector pins it should have been clocked at a 45 degree angle.

Would a gunsmith be able to open up the ejection port so it is opened all the way to 12:00? It might look kind of weird, but would it still be safe afterwards? Most of the strength would still be in the slide rails. And what would be a ballpark figure for the work?

Just for kicks I'm thinking I could use my dreml and open up the top. It would surly look like a red neck Jerry rig. But it would work. Glocks and Sig's have vertually no 12:00 high support on the slide. This is one rugged son of a gun.

I had an EAA Witness 10mm that did the same thing. Returned it 3 times to the importer for a fix. They couldn't fix it. I traded it in on a rifle. Call the dealer and complain and see what their solution is.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

The ejector is part of the frame.

Your pistol should have a loaded round indicator and I believe that is what you see at the 12:00 position
