Cape needed.....
« on: October 25, 2013, 01:31:19 PM »
If any of you quality deer boys are not going to mount your deer, I have a guy that will buy your cape.  He shot a nice buck this year and messed up his cape.  He is looking for replacement.  He would like a mule deer cape that is grey in color.  His buck had a huge neck..estimated at 23-24 inches.  Let me know and I will get you in touch with him.

Thanks

Johnny

Anything that I don't mount goes to Rick at Cedar River in exchange for credit towards a euromount.  He might have some. I have sent him one each of the last two seasons.  Hopefully this year I need my own after the late season but if not I can pm you first.

How are you measuring?  23-24 over the swee? Behind the ears? Over the hair? Or off the carcass?

23-24" around the swell is not very big, is it?

I am not sure....the measurements I was given were by the person needing the cap.  It was measured by a taxidermist.  Apparently the measurements are roughly 8x23-24x26....does that sound right.  I believe the 23-24 is at the ears and the 26 is at mid neck.  8 being the face.  I am not sure why they need exact measurements when they are getting a new cape.  The antlers would go on any cape...I would think.  Just may be a little smaller than the actual buck taken.  The antlers are a Heavy 2x4 with lots of character and a double eye guard on the two point side.  It is 24" spread.

I wouldn't be too concerned with the size of the cape, the color would be a bigger priority if it were me. Even if its a little smaller its just going to show off the rack better. Its always funny to see guys have their taxi's mount their average racks on huge capes, it makes the antlers look tiny. :chuckle:

Some people like the swelled neck look.  Just like some are picky about the color matching there original cape.  Just like some would not mount the deer without the original cape.

Those measurments sound right.  That is a really big cape.  I got one in the freezer that's 25-26 behind the ears but that's an expensive cape. :chuckle:
