Idaho elk hunt, success.
« on: October 25, 2013, 07:15:24 PM »
Had a long story but it wouldn't down load, so short story it is.  We only took one bull out of 4 guys this year, in the past we have taken 8 elk in four years, most years just 3 guys. This year was much different, very quiet in the woods and had wolves howling opening day. Elk were hard to find unlike years past, two guys didn't even see an elk in 10 days of hunting. Lots of grouse though, my good friend Chris helped keep the grouse numbers down!!  Killed my bull on the 4 th day, heard a branch break behind me and did some back tracking, first elk was a cow, behind her was a calf.  When the cow popped up I got a good rest on a tree and waited, after the calf walk up on the skid road a bull followed, bam- dead bull! I shot him right through the heart (graphic photo). Thanks to my very good friends for the help, hopefully next year we cut some more tags.

We had a damn outfitter across the river later during the hunt playing a fox pro of wolves and bugles combo, he was trying to get wolves in for his clients! Good idea, WRONG time of year! AZz. Hat!! I would do that during the winter time but not on opening week elk! My partner gave him a piece of his mind.

Nice job   The terrian in the back ground looks like western washington, with the sword ferns.
