scope size/ring size
« on: November 02, 2008, 03:10:34 PM »
is there a standard rule of thumb when buying rings as far as height goes?
i have a couple sets of rings....both medium height, one weaver and one leupold. with a 40mm reticle, it looks like i might be able to go to a low height ring...it's on a savage model 10 with a standard barrel contour and no iron sights.

i guess what i am wondering more or less is i am dealing with a 40mm scope, can i always go with low rings or does it depend on the rifle and trial and error or what ?

thanks in advance.

If you go to Leupold website, they have a chart that will tell you what height rings you can use. I don't have the link but try their website.

If it`s a standard contoured barrel, the low rings will work.
