I HATE WASHINGTON!
« on: October 28, 2013, 08:05:52 AM »
So I get another chance to do some hunting this weekend, its probly my last chance till late season. So I hike my sorry butt to the bottom of this creek bed and find a great spot. then a gun shot...and another...and another...and another. 12 SHOTS LATER they switch to a PISTOL! :yike: BUNCH OF POLO SHIRT YUPPIE JERKS TRYING TO BE 50 CENT! GOD I HATE HUNTING WASHINGTON! :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

Sorry for the rant but some people just don't have even the slightest common courtesy any more. I may give it another go late buck but this may have done it for me. and another thought, where were they shooting all those rounds into? hopefully they had a backstop and just weren't lobbing rounds into the woods!

Don't let that stop you. People are shooting and having fun. Hunting muzzle loader I hear rifle guys sighting in their guns all the time. Yes it can ruin the peace we are seeking but I wouldn't go as far as hating this great state because of that. Maybe the rain but not the shooting. haha

:yeah:  I have neighbors that have no business living in the woods and have no concept of hunting seasons.
The animals are used to the shooting and return as if nothing happened. Don't let other people ruin your good time.

Public land is for the public not just for hunters. Hell I hate this state for better reasons than someone else enjoying the out of doors. The seasons here have sucked for so long I get hickies every time hunting season comes around  :chuckle:

Less worried about the deer, more worried about me catching a bullet in the butt from people just blasting away. Hunters orange only works so good.

:yeah: the deer learn to adapt.  Deer don't spook from random shots through the woods, they can't afford to.

Just get over a hill and you'll be safe from their shooting

Public land I assume?? Not sure what you've got to complain about. Get further away from the roads maybe so as to avoid the folks that stay close to said roads for the purpose of target shooting, camping, throwing stones, etc. Not sure why the state of washington is being blamed for this.

Trust me I know the 2nd amendment well and use it often. however I also have respect for other peoples rights and activity's. I never go target shooting in the woods during hunting season, ill go to a range instead if I have to. I get all my sighting in and plinking done during the off season out of respect for others. That's what seems to be lost, those people had a RIGHT to shoot in the woods on public land, but they had no respect for the OTHERS that may be using it for something else.

Mongo,

I live on Whidbey and am treated to an air-show nearly every day. They call it 'the sound of freedom' but I know the true sound of freedom is the droning of gunfire I can hear coming from Green's Gun Range just down the road. I know those dudes annoy you, I get frustrated being in an area there are irresponsible shooters too. But get used to it, it's only gonna get worse!

No I'm not an idiot but there are other states and areas that have more of a "hunting culture" and that brings more respect to other hunters. this is not my first time in the woods or hunting. and this is not the first time this has happened, I wouldn't have blown my top over this being the first time. I would have written it off as S happens.

Public land is for everyone.
I'm sure nature photographers are upset at seeing your orange vest in the trees, how rude of you to ruin the landscape.

Over here on the eastside of the mtn.  A normal hunting day begins by hiking in to your spot, having other hunters hike in as its getting light people mill around glass, then grow bored and leave, you know its noon when you here a shot followed by 10-20 more reverberating off the hills.  Ah must be lunch time the boys are all playing at the pits.  The deer dont seem to care they only get antsy when every hunter on the hillside has tried getting closer because just maybe one of thoes does is actually a big buck and the other 8 hunters who pushed them around didnt see it :chuckle:

I would have just hunkered down and watched, if they did spook the deer there is a good chance if you were in a nice hidey hole that is where they would go.  Learning to use the other hunters is something I am working on and I got way closer to filling a tag this year and I spent a ton of time in the middle of lots of deer.

what I hate is our short season and my schedule never letting me hunt the only 7-9 days of deer we have.

From just this weekend, although they were running around the archery range, there were tons of shots going off and being heard from the rifle range:

:yeah:  the noise doesn't bother me or the idea of people shooting--it is usually the not knowing 'who' is shooting.  About half the time I see random people out shooting it makes me want to be far, far away.  That bad half is usually doing something like hanging a zombie target off a low tree limb with no back stop and firing as fast as possible from the hip with an AR or AK.

:yeah:  Well said.  I was at Renton Range and shooting my rifle. One day around 2001 I was shooting after few rounds and above me the light came on it mean STOP and step back on white line and stand step back look at three pointer walking thur all target post at 100 yards from chair to target.    :yike:  How can he be deaf...   :chuckle:  I would have shot him EASY.

Another story recently.. I was helping my friend on his back yard which is 300 yards from King County police shooting range He lost three pet ducks to some of predators and two days later I offered him to hunt them down and I bagged a Bobcat with in 30 min calling her in.   ;)  it doesnt mean Washington is a bad place to hunt.  Just need to spend some of hunt and get luck.

I wear collared shirts, have been known to listen to 50 cent and live in Liberty Lake (yuppie part of Spokane).  Am I allowed to go in the woods and hunt this year?   Please let me know, late archery is fast approaching and need to know if I should stop scouting.

You know what forget I said anything, I did realize my keyboard typed with an accent. I said I didn't care about the deer I care about getting shot by a bunch of people who play too much Call of Duty and think they are Ghost! And YES I was way off the road and YES they have the right to do it but I guess I'm the Jerk for thinking people should be more courteous to others, MY BAD. I bet if this was Late Elk Archery more people would care, I guess I shouldn't care anymore about who's in the woods running around.

Mongo hunter,  I know how you feel,  it just remember that we have 7 million people in Washington and it getting worse and worse.  Over in MT only have 1.1 million people. So you gotta to try and enjoy what you can and I admit myself I got pissed when Hound hunting got banned last March 2011 and I threw my fit and later I had to change it and I have to accept it and move on.  I know how you feel.  I could just pack and move over to MT and hunt there all my life there. But my daugther is here because my ex wife REFUSED let me take my daugther and move there. So I must stay here and support my child until she graduate then I am moving.

Here's an interesting thread for you to read: http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,133724.0.html good read with a twist ending.

He got the same responses as yours and it was elk archery, maybe not LATE, but still.

I have had to reign in my fear or quit hunting.  I dont trust 90% of people out there who shoot.  Most of them scare me but I try to determine where they are shooting and then make myself as safe as I can.

I dont think hunting season is the only time to worry about being shot at least during deer and elk peeps are wearing orange, what about in the summer when out scouting or just enjoying the woods and it lights up with gunfire?  It is something we all sadly have to deal with or stay home.

Guess if I am gonna die rather be hit by a stray bullet in the woods than hit by a car crossing the street walking to work or school.

I understand your POV. I also just figured out not to post much on this site because the people on here think they have it all figured out  Don't give up something that you love though because then they win.

You know what forget I said anything, I did realize my keyboard typed with an accent. I said I didn't care about the deer I care about getting shot by a bunch of people who play too much Call of Duty and think they are Ghost! Pretty hard to beat living in the Northwest.  Washington does have it's struggles with idiots and an arrogance against hunters.  On that I can not disagree with the OP.  And I might say that over the past five years it seems to have gotten worse.  My parents just got back from a cross country road trip.  They sent emails about all the signs in the Dakota's and Montana saying "Welcome Hunter's!"  You don't see that in Washington anymore and that is sad.

We have thought about moving from Washington a few times.  Though that has more to do with taxation, state debt and misuse of taxpayer dollars than it has to do with target shooters in our hunting spots.  I completely understand your frustration Mongo, but idiots are everywhere.  Perhaps more concentrated in Washington compared to Wyoming or Idaho, but it seems I run into them PA to SC from east coast to west coast.  Lack of respect is a disease running rampant all across our great America. Maybe due to the breakdown of family, religion or as a result of the progressive entitlement mindset.  However, Washington has so much more to offer when hunting season is in the mirror we always choose to stay after our frustrations have run their course.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

A few idiots around for sure. See the mall the time when going to one of my favorite places to shoot. One time we were done shooting, it was getting late and we had at least an hour and a half drive to go down the mountain and then home. Driving down the FS Road and we see targets on the right side up against the back.  :yike: I look down the road and thank goodness know body has began shooting yet! I pull up to the vehicles and two guys with two younger kids walk up. I politely let them know that shooting down or up a FS road is not only dangerous but illegal as well. Especially one that is maintained and well traveled. Not to mention shooting across the road too!  :bash: They said they didn't think people were up so high and it would be ok. Again I reminded them that it was illegal and they should move where it is safe to do so. They just said thanks and continued doing whatever.  :bash: We got into cell range, made a call to the local PD.  :dunno:

As liberal as WA is, it's still probably going to be my home until the end, whenever that is. Were I single, I might think about ID, MT, or WY. But, mother likes the civilization and culture that the I-5 corridor brings, so I guess we'll be staying. As of Halloween, I'll have been here 24 years from NH and never looked back. There's no place like the Pacific NW and I've lived in a lot of them.
