It pays to pass on the small ones
« on: October 29, 2013, 12:55:17 AM »
Here's a pic of my buck I got tonight .as I have got older and my knees aren't as good as they once were I have problems walking up and down stairs but put me in the woods I forget all about it at least til morning.
I've been seeing 8to 10 does in the same area all season but only watched from a distance haven't seen any bucks in that spot but since last Monday I've seen 10 but I told myself this year I want another huge blacktail I have a 140+ on the wall now but nothing that big for a long time.
Well this afternoon. On the way to the spot I seen 7 does feeding everywhere I thought this was a good sign
So I'm pulling up to the gate and glass the hillside and see the does no bucks dang again
But I'm sticking to the plan I'm going around the field sneaking I. And waiting til dark
I walk all the way around to get the wind right got to where I could see the old apple trees at 330 I just want to say I'm fifty now at fourty I never would have sat that long .
4 o'clock 8 does come In alright ruts on there has to be a buck
445 2 small three points come In and feed and spar a bit I said to myself
There has to be a big one around 545 the deer moved the the far corner
600 yards away but I kept glassing with about 20 mins of shooting light the two bucks look the corner and there posture changed so I kept looking and there he was but man it was a long shot
For my 243 but I had a good rest I figured 475 and boom well the buck disappeared
And came back out chasing a doe honestly I new I was a shooter but didn't think it was that big
So as he chasing a doe I crawled bad knees and all for 10 mins got within 100 yards could not find him and all of a sudden he comes chAsing all small buck steady rest and boom smack deer wheelie and he disappeared I waited didn't move most of the deer moved away but kept looking back I knew I got him
I walked up and this is what I saw ..

Wish more people thought like that. Unfortunately, for some, the 30 lbs of meat on a spike is too much to resist.
