I just rinse mine, when I think about it. Probably not as much as I should.

It would probably be a good idea to grease them internally once a year or so. I just retired a Cabelas spinning real this year, never greased in the 10 or so years of use, as mentioned, just rinsed once in a while. I've only retired it because one screw head broke off and the gears inside won't stay together when realing under tension and I can't figure out how to open it up to pull the screw.

If I lived close to the coast, I would fish for them year round. I don't think many do because planning a trip to the coast can be problematic in the winter with unpredictable weather. Also, I think many people don't want to pay hundreds (?) of dollars for a limit of rockfish with no salmon or lingcod in it.
