Making a TC Encore Legal?
« on: October 30, 2013, 11:10:12 PM »
Is it possible to make a TC Encore legal by releasing an area above the nipple so it is open to the weather?  And of course installing a percussion cap nipple.

I don't see whay not.  I think a small hole would make it meet the requirement.

I don't think they make a nipple/breech plug that will accept the correct ignition.

It has been done... I think somebody in Oregon has modified one.  It is not a cheap process.  TC does not offer a BP Nipple combination for one.  If/when you were to build one - then the measurement to get the nipple the correct distance from the face the firing pin block would need to be very precise. The strength of the hammer spring would need to be increased to provide the firing pin enough force to set off a cap.

One of the reason that Traditions NW break opens have problems with consistent ignition from rifle to rifle is again because of the thought of converting a 209 rifle to a cap rifle.  In some it works very well in others it is highly suspect.

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Yep! they do, actually they make a lot of things for the Encore series rifle mostly better than TC did but then TC had to worry about the final costs to complete - Bellem doesn't - if you want them he has them.

Thanks for the info.  It sounds like it would be more effort and cost than its worth. There are plenty of good, reliable guns out there that will not become more of a project.
