'Terrible' Hunter puts a Halloween buck on the ground!
« on: October 31, 2013, 01:44:02 PM »
Well, my fortune has changed! I'm the guy that posted a thread last week wondering if I was really a terrible hunter, or if blacktails were always this hard to hunt. Well, shortly after posting that thread I started seeing a lot more deer. I finally had the right wind to set-up on this spot I'd been waiting to hunt for about 3 days. He came out chasing a doe right before 7:30. Glassed him to make sure he was legal and dropped him dead in his tracks at about 60 yards. I worked harder for this buck than any whitetail I've ever shot. It felt soooooo good to finally put a buck on the ground. He ended up being a 4x5 with a cool crab claw. Thanks again for all the encouragement following my 'Am I really this terrible of a hunter' thread!

Good for you.  You'll never kill them if you're not out in the woods.

Congratulations...nice buck.  I've killed several bucks on Halloween.  If I had to pick one day to hunt, that is the day I would choose.  The only drawback is hustling to get the deer out of the woods so I can get back in time to Trick-or-Treat with my girls.

I guess you answered your own question. Not terrible at all! Nice buck, neighbor.

That is a sweet Blacktail, alot of guys will never get one like that and have hunted them for years.
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.
