Idaho deer hunt 2013
« on: November 01, 2013, 05:29:33 PM »
Was lucky enough to take a trip to southeast Idaho with my father in law, his brother and his cousin.  I guess I was supposed to be the designated pack mule.  The first day started out with a bang, first thing uncle Bob connects on a nice 18" 4x4.  Not too long after that My father in law gets his 24" 3x4, just about 200 yards from uncle Bob's buck.  The rest of the day was taken up by dragging and skinning!  Day two, no bucks.  Day 3 I hiked in about 2.5 miles and hunted a ridge that I was wanting to hunt that always looked good but never had the chance to check out.  Made it to the top of the ridge, jumped a small bull moose, then continued around the ridge, came to a big sage brush hill side and I noticed a few deer on the far end of the opening.  Sure enough there are two bucks, one was definitely bigger than the other.  So I watched him contemplating on whether to shoot him or not, there was no dragging this buck out, so I was not going to shoot a little buck way back here!  So I looked him over good, and talked myself into it.  It was hard to judge him, he was 400 yards out, I knew he was a good buck, so I let the 7mm fly.  After following the blood trail for 50 yards or so, he jumped up again and I say his rack of horns, "Holy Crap that's a nice buck"  and I finished him off!  Yeee Haaaah, dead buck!!!  We packed him out 2.5 miles.  And we finished off the trip with my father in laws Cousin smoked the buck  18" 3x4 that was running with mine.  His buck died within 100 yards of my buck!  Pack ON!  I think I found my new favorite ridge!  Great times with family, 4 bucks in 5 days.  This was a trip I will always remember!

Congratulations on the hunt! Looks like you guys had fun. A friend and I also did a trip this year to SE Idaho. We were not that fortunate to see that many deer and I was not fortunate enough to put my crosshairs on one. Maybe next time.

Congrats!

Great job looks like the crab claws run in the gene pool the fronts on two of those deer look almost identical.
