Are you rifle muzzy or archery? In this unit i see more deer near homes than anywhere else.  IMO this unit lends itself to archery more than anything else because its easier to secure permission. I do know that on some of the larger pieces of timber nearer the hwy 9 side there are some nice deer. It is steep and lots of people hunt it late season.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

407 is a tuff unit, you either need to know land down low, which tends to be the better hunting.  There are deer up in the timberland, but they seem to be in a little pockets.

I hunted those two units pretty hard too,, nothing but a few does. I'll be back up during late season. Gotta admit,, deer on the ground or not,, it's a great area to hunt,, beautiful country up there.

I hit 418 pretty hard and didn't see a thing. I would feel a little better if I saw a doe at least. I saw a couple bear which I will be going after this weekend but that was all. You are not alone...

I've seen one small one twice and one big one once in the same area. I let the little one walk on Wednesday but at this point I'll take either one.

Hunting in these areas are tough ....the bucks that are there do not show themselves until it is rutting time ..plus tribal hunting and predators are also an issue !

Tribal hunting is an issue....
my neighbor told me some stuff about the rituals and I :bdid: :bdid: :bdid: can see why there's less deer.

there are deer there, definitely gets crowded in late season.  I see the most deer in 407 in towns and people yards!  I did tag out there last day of late season last year so it  can be done.

Their are definitely some great areas in 407, but all mine are private land up north.  You really just gotta know some people.

Meh,,, even if there's rumor of 1 buck left up there,,,, I'm gonna hunt it! There's thrill in the hunt for me. Get out and enjoy it while ya can. Over the last 20 years, rules and regs have dramatically changed the way we're allowed to hunt,, I can't imagine what the next 20 years is gonna bring.  :twocents:

We've had the worst season here also but some have had their best season.  Just have to know land owners and be out as often as you can or be me and have a late tag so you don't have to hunt 407 at all for deer. :chuckle:

I wonder if camping out at night in the area and getting up early so not to be noisy would work? or even night hunting. wait that's poaching it? :sry:

I was gonna try the camping out thing,, just cuz I like that sorta thing,, or I like the idea of it,, might have a different opinion on it when I'm cold and wet. But the thought of hunting at night didn't cross my mind.
