I'm not sleeping well with dreams of whitetails, snow and temps in the teens filling my head. 5 days till liftoff.

For sny of the late hunters be advised the snow is moving down the mountains, here in the Methow,  daily and pushing a lot of deer ahead of it

Myself and 6x6in6 watched a young kid kill a 23" wide 4x4 today in the chiwawa. Kids first buck which was pretty cool. We have both been seeing a few deer here and there but nothin to hang our tags on. It still early...

We were hunting Sat. morning for my son's late WT in 218 and walked up on a really nice 170" muley, now you might ask why we seen a big muley while WT hunting, well this guy had already came out of the hills and was within a 100 yards of the chewuch river about 18 miles north of town. My neighbor seen a really nice buck Fri. morning with a herd of does but went back up this morning and the buck was not with the herd so they don't know if someone shot it or was just taking a break somewhere close by. Whitetail hunting sucked only seen 4 does, will give it another try this weekend.

Here's a quick report from the Entiat and my buddy's tag.

Friday the opener was warm and calm, and we saw very little activity, high and low.  The front moved in on Saturday, and we started the day with a 130's class buck rutting up a small group of does way down low.  Good sign.  Battled the fog and saw deer here and there, not a ton, presumably mostly residents.  We glassed and worked our way up high, and hit fresh snow at about 5,000 feet.  It was snowy and blowing sideways, made it really tough to glass.  On the way to the top, we hardly saw any tracks in the snow - discouraging, as I figured that snow would get them moving downhill.  But on the way back down a while later, we started seeing a lot more activity, including one 140's class buck trotting straight down the mountain.  No does in sight, looked like he just wanted out of the nasty weather.

At the end of the day we worked our way back to the bottom.  As luck would have it, way down low, we had a doe walk out of the hill crease above us...then another doe, then another, then a big buck...good mass, dark horns, and deep forks, and that did the trick!
