What is the bet way to get started in trapping? Best traps? Stuff like that.

I'm biased for sure but I think the best way is to join WSTA and make it too the Rendezvous. You can look at different traps and talk to the guys that have used them. Good demos and people willing to share what works.

Hey bruce. Know any places that have blueprints on how to build various traps? I dont really feel like paying $90+ for for beaver/bobcat traps when I can build them myself.
Any other websites that carry supplies other then http://www.fntpost.com/cart.php and advanced traps (waaay overpriced)

I don't know anyplace that sells blueprints. Most guys start out buying a trap and then copying it or at least incorporating the design into a trap sized to suit them.
I know cage traps like Advanced Traps or Comstocks seem high priced but if you consider the labor that goes into them they are not. Just from my own experience I can tell you it is a lot of work to turn out a few traps.
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with makeing your own but you will come to appreciate the time involved.
I buy my supplies from http://www.minntrapprod.com/  Lots of other  supply dealers around the country but not many have much to choose from as far as cage traps. It's kind of new and not needed in most of the country so you won't see much in the way of newer inovative traps like swim throughs or even good cat traps. A lot of the best cages are being sold by their makers and it is kind of word of mouth advertising.

I get what your saying, I guess the first year out Ill be forking out the most cash for what I need to get started, I think I stand around $200 so far for basic muskrat/mink supplies between fleshing boards, tools/knives, stretching boards/wire stretchers, and supplies to make colony traps.
Thanks for the post Ill check them out and see what I can find.

So I added a short video to YouTube titled "home made swimthrough cage trap" but don't know how to upload it onto here. It's just a short clip of me setting it to show the speed of the doors.

I can't let my wife see this, but I have spent $1100 in the past 8 weeks re-acquiring all my trapping gear.  Finally got everything I need (want).  Eventually I'll want a few more 220s and a few more 330s, but I have all new #5 Bridger Dbl Longsprings, #5 Bridger Coilsprings, a bunch of Victor #3 Dbl Longsprings, a bunch of 1.5 coilsprings, 110s, 120s, 220s and 330s.

110 conibears are single spring 5 inch by 5 inch, the 120s are the same size but double springs like their big brother the 330s.  Used for rats and mink.
