Found a blacktail shed today
« on: November 02, 2013, 04:36:44 PM »
My brother and I went for a drive early this morning to test out the theory that blacktail deer like being in the open on windy, wet days.

We also had a spot we found last weekend that is just tore up with fresh buck rubs, and I wanted to put up a trail camera to see if I could get a picture of the buck, or bucks, that did it.

While following trails and searching for the perfect set up for the trail camera, I came across this real nice 2 point shed. I was surprised at the good condition. It looked like it could have fallen off the buck yesterday, but I know it had to have been laying there for 7 or 8 months.

If my luck continues I will have a picture of the buck that shed that antler when I check the camera in a couple of weeks. Of course I will never know if it's the same buck. But I'm really hoping to get pictures of a real nice 3 or 4 point buck in that spot.

Nice.  Never Found A Blacktail Shed Myself. :'(

I have found a few, but none of those were found while actually looking for sheds. I think I jinx myself when I go out specifically looking for them.

You better not post that! We're gonna have people harrassing and running those deer all over their rutting grounds :chuckle:

That horn easily could have fallen off that deer yesterday. I've seen 2 blacktails in the last month missing horns. Good work finding it!
