I'm in Montana and the rut has started a week early this year here. We shot a buck this morning that was chasing a doe hard with two other bucks in the chase too. Have seen several whitey's fighting already.

Definitely seen a few fresh rubs in the last week in 113. They're getting close, this recent snow and cold temps should really get them going by start of late season! Like you said DB the muleys are already chasing.

In all honesty, my family lives in the Curlew area and we own hunting property, but I am on the Wetside now.  I was raised in Kennewick.  Can not pass up my friends ranch near Springdale.  Nice and cozy cabin to hunt out of.   :IBCOOL:

Curlew...funny..  I drive a couple hours from near 124 just so I can hunt 101 and it looks like you drive a couple hours from 101 to hunt 124.  :chuckle:

Hey DB do you leave any stands year round?

You use hang on or climbers?

You mean like these KF?
They have been hung since the early season.

I wouldn't be opposed to leaving one August - December but no longer... I don't understand leaving the climbing stand... I would be way too worried it would be taken if left that long (on public land anyway)

I left two up last year and the dang squirrels ate the foam seat in the one that had it.   >:(

A friend in WI almost hit a big buck this morning chasing a doe.  Don't know if that helps much though.   ;)

I've started seeing alot of new rubs/scrapes show up in my hunting grounds. Also a few of my regular bucks aren't so regular anymore, probably out looking. Also starting so see some new bucks showing up too.

Checked cams today and had a 4pt that broke his G2 this last week. They must be doing a little fighting. I also came across a fresh scrape...

I need to tag this as my son has the late WT tag for the chewuch unit (not the best WT unit I know),  having never hunted WT's before what signs should we look for in a rutting WT buck in the area? we have until the 20 and plan on hunting this weekend and the last 6 days of the season if needed. Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread.

This topic is in my head lately. I'm about to partake in my 1st whitetail hunt during the rut out west. Can't wait.

Good luck brother. What GMU are you going to hunt?

My favorite area.... :chuckle:

I found a handful of new scrapes last weekend. Had a couple of younger bucks chasing some does on camera but haven't seen any mature bucks chasing yet. They have all been vampires up to this point as well.
