Yakima wolves?
« on: November 04, 2013, 07:18:26 PM »
Excuse me if this has been on here but I really dont want to go looking . Was talking to my buddy today about his elk hunt over in the cowichee.. he said he struck up a conversation with a land owner that said the yakima tribe and the state worked together to release a few breeding pair of wolves. Where I do not know? does anyone on here?
Also he said that out of all those wolves aparently there are only 9 left.  I find that funny

Well I would think that it would be releasing of wolves that were live trapped then collared and released. As it is against the wolf introduction for the WDFW to actually release them. They were suppose to self populate kind of like go West little wolf.

I doubt the tribes would be involved in a reintroduction of wolves, if they were it would be made public to make them look good. Far as i know all tribes that have wolves on "their" hunting grounds, are trying to manage them. Highly doubt the tribes would secretly release wolves :twocents:

Were wolves re-introduced to Washington?

No. Wolves are returning naturally from dispersing populations in nearby states and provinces. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) never reintroduced or transplanted wolves into Washington, nor has any other state or federal agency.

I seen wolf tracks when we went lion hunting years back, way before they were "officially" here. Wolves never left WA, they've always been here. But our WDFW has not said so, just more bs to believe..... I don't think wolves were transplanted, but they have been here all this time IMO. Now that their "endangered" though, we hunters are stuck. Not much we can do, hopefully the tribes put a hurt on them :twocents:

The answer is no. You can't 're-introduce' a species that has never existed here before. It was an unlawful release of a non-native species. The Canadian Gray Wolf does not belong here.

Wolves outnumber hunters over here now so I wouldn't bother going east of the PCT there's no game left.

That rumor was going around here about 5 yrs ago. B.S. if you ask me, I'm not a fan of how the tribe manages game around here but I know that they wouldn't even do something as dumb as this
