Who has the swakane late buck permit?
« on: November 07, 2013, 05:52:49 AM »
Just wondering if anyone knows someone or has the late rifle tag? Looking for info such as snow level and doe numbers? Have 3 archery doe tags hoping to fill the 22-24. Also so big buck pictures would be nice too.

Shouldn't be too much of an issue.  There will be plenty of people in there pushing them around.

The issue is that it's open for Late Buck general season.  A buddy had a doe tag there last year and several people blew multiple stalks for does he was already on.  Multiple times the jack wads just blew by him on the same side of the hill and spooked the deer into next canyon.  It gets crowded over there!

Shouldn't have any issues locating does. Getting the stalk and shot done is another story. There will be traffic and there will be plenty of other hunters. Make sure your rig is capable of potentially nasty, icey road conditions too. The roads are no joke that time of year.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

If it were me, I'd stay far away from Swakane Canyon and the other lower areas.  Chain up all four and get up high.  You can find does anywhere in the unit that time of year, so go find some that are away from the big crowds.  I think most folks hunt the east end because it's wide open and they can see tons of deer on the sidehills from a long distance.   But if you actually want to kill one, particularly a doe, it will be easier if you can find smaller country to hunt away from the crowds.   :twocents:

Thanks for the info guys. We have hunted it before and we have always been into game. We plan on getting up into a few inches of snow depending on where we start seeing them other plan is getting to the tree line. Plan on camping at the first corner in swakane rd stop and say hi if we r there. we have 2 powerstrokes both green that will be there and on will be chains for running up the hill as we know how bad it can get up there. Hoping to feel all but if we get one we will be stoked our hunting buddy juSt got back into hunting after 30 yrs so figured it would be a good confidence builder for him. Good luck to all
