Hunting Pearrygin next week
« on: November 07, 2013, 11:03:31 PM »
I will be headed out Saturday for Twisp to hunt my" any buck" tag. I usually camp and hunt off the Loup Loup Pass highway. Jack Creek, Little Buck Mt. and the game range. I hope I find a nice shooter. I have waited a long time to draw this tag.

I am sitting in Swedish hospital with my brother, Fishseeker. He is in his last hours or days but I know he wouldn't want me to miss this opportunity. I am not sure how many more hunts this body of mine will be able to do. We had a good two weeks of elk hunting and he will be with me on this hunt.
It looks like favorable weather next week so I have a good feeling about it.

Good luck, a friend sent me a pick asking for a score opinion of a buck in there a couple days ago. I put it at a conservative 185", more likely 190"+ typical, yet he decided to pass. It's in there so go get him, I'll be heading over in the morning too.

He must be crazy. Passing a deer that scores 190. Glad he's not my hunting partner cause I like to eat.  :chuckle: oh wait a minute that means I can shoot. :IBCOOL: maybe I need more hunting partners like him for future trips.

Typically these late tag hunters are not too concerned with the "meat" aspect of the opportunity! ;) :twocents:

It has been 16 years since I tagged a deer in this state. I haven't necessarily hunted every year but it is still a long dry spell. I would like a nice rack though.

:yeah: after putting in for years and years for an absolutely premium tag, anyone who shot an average buck before the last day would be a fool.

Elk4Me, kill the biggest buck up there and remember your brother is there too.

I'm not saying someone should shoot a dink but a 190 inch buck is a monster buck. Don't think you will have much opportunity at much bigger but would love to see him prove me wrong with a bigger one. That would be awesome. Seriously.

No way you would pass on a 190 buck.  Must not know what 190 looks like in the field.  A 160 buck would probably give a guy the jitters.  :twocents:

He is no monster but the best of the herd. We saw about 8 bucks before this one. He was with another 4x4 and when I saw the eye guards I gave him a taste of Hornady SST 180gr. He didn't like it. I could have waited for something bigger maybe but I am happy, easy drag in light snow, downhill 400 yards to the truck.
I feel that my little brother Fishseeker was there with me this morning and that makes it the perfect hunt.

We got home, have it hanging at my friends for the night. I need to get it to a meat cutter early tomorrow due to the warmer weather coming. I hope I find one open that can take it. We would do it ourselves but time is not on our side. I also want to get a head mount. I kinda messed the hide up for a shoulder mount so I will have to settle for just in front the shoulder.
Anyone know a meat cutter open tomorrow??

I really felt that he was with me. It was just so easy with lots of bucks running around. I got him on the SR 20 Methow Game Range. There was about 1 1/2" of fresh snow and it was snowing. Picture perfect conditions, short drag downhill and it was just what Fishseeker would have needed if it were him. I am going to mount it, it is my biggest deer ever and it was just a perfect day. My 71 year old deer hunting partner went with me and it was great to be able to have someone along to enjoy the moment.

TNT meats out of camano island. Highly recommend. I've dropped animals there on Sunday evening. He should take it. Other then him being real busy.

I second TNT, my uncle gets all his meat done there and its great.

I would also volunteer to help with some cutting/packaging. I've done 2 elk and a deer this year and my knives are sharp. Be happy to just run a vacuum sealer if it would help out.
