Swakane Late Archery
« on: November 12, 2013, 02:46:22 PM »
Im going to be working in the Wenatchee area around thanksgiving and looking to do some late buck hunting. Is the Swakane unit worth looking into? Any helpful information on this unit would be greatly appreciated.

:yeah: It is one of the reasons that I don't go in there is the roads can get really nasty and I would be hunting alone so I don't chance it. Not to mention I am hoping to fill my tag on a big whitie.

There is snow up top on the western border as well as on the north slopes where it has not melted off.  Don't let the snow fool you....some of the scariest driving over here is in the mud and ice.....and we have had plenty of wet weather to make some of these roads slicker than elephant snot.   :twocents:

The mud on some roads there is slicker than snot. If you put yourself a good distance from the truck you should have a quality hunt

Plenty of deer and people.

Don't you mean plenty of people and deer?

Now that I think about it this year might be different with it opening the week before Thanksgiving.  What I normally see is the first 3 days of the season is really packed and once all of the new guys realize how steep the hills are and how bad the roads can get it thins right out on people and camps, people just pack up and head for easier ground I guess.  By the time you get there at Thanksgiving many people may have given up.

Always a good feeling when your chained up and some jack wagon comes sliding down the hill . not very many good places to pass up there id park early and beat feet away from the roads

Was up there last weekend looking around and a guy rolled his suburban.  Good advice from these guys, this isn't just scare tactics to keep you out of there.

If you can find a place to pull off the road consider yourself lucky. It's sorta like hunting the Walmart parking lot the day after Thanksgiving, that's how many people there are... and the roads are horrible unless completely frozen.

when i had my jeep it was heavy duty chains all the way around. don't hunt half of the places in my 3/4 ton crew cab long bed... w/ that being said occasionally would be cutting snowmobile tracks in my jeep!
