Razor clam questions
« on: November 12, 2013, 02:52:13 PM »
Looks like I'm going to be going for my first trip to dig razor clams. I am questioning the licensing though. I have a combo fresh/salt/shellfish license. Is that all I need. The way I'm reading the regs I think I'm good but want to make sure since I see a specific razor clam license in the regs. Info on this would help. Thanks
Good luck to other diggers.
Going to dig with clam shovel not pipe. Looks more fun

I Was Told Shellfish Will Cover It.  It Is Confusing That They Have A Separate License For it.

The separate license is for people that razor clam but don't crab or dig for other clams.

Well took the trip for clams and it was a blast. Limited 5 people on clams. Took a few minutes to get the hang of it but once I did I was a digging machine. I got my 15 in short order. Also fished for surf perch a while before digging and got these. Biggest was 1.58 pounds. First perch I've ever caught and first razor clams. Feels great to have such great success on things I knew so little about. Want to learn more on surf perch for future trips because I thought that was a blast.

Perch love clam necks, snip off (before heating or anything) the tips of the clam necks after your dig and stick around for fishing.

That's what I used to catch the 3 perch. Left over clam pieces from someone else's trip. Other baits didn't produce.
