Ryderwood is about the only place they gave use this year...Muzzleloaders get washougal and many, many more places to hunt.  I just dont get it!!!  I think we are being ripped off!!  Ryderwood is going to be a freak'n zoo.  All hunters and no game, just like every late season.  Now that I got all that off my chest!!  LOL  It really is'nt fare.

What are you complaining about. :dunno:  You get 3 of the best units in SW Washinton to hunt.  Willapa Hills, Winston, and Ryderwood are all great hunts in the late season.  Archery hasn't had late season in Washougal for years, it's been for muzzy's.

Are you kidding me  :yike: I sure wish they would willapa hills, ryderwood, winston creek for late season muzzy. Heck i wish they would open willapa or winston for our tiny one week early season.

here we go. ML's get this we get screwed again... Cry me a freakin river. We get what? 1 legitimate unit for the early season ryderwood? Bow hunters get every unit? Then they cry about units they get in the late season. Whah freakin whah... Try and get the rifle hunters to give up a few units, that is the fight you should be fighting.

Look at the break down, ML gets 30 percent of the available units, archery gets 65 rifle gets 95. Us Muzzle loaders are the ones that should be crying. Archers get the rut, rifle gets all the area and MLs fit in the middle.

I won't argue that ml get screwed.  They should give up a few more units so that you are so cramped.  I don't ml hunt, but I do feel for ya.

O.K. I stand corrected!!!  You are right about that, we do get alot but I happen to want late bow in washougal unit.  MZ's hunt the back side of yacolt burn.....like right below gunboot mt.  There is a huge bull there I seen him last week.   It is a 6x6 that is a monster!!  I am just putting it out there.  If some one gets him thank me later.  It is 1 of my favorite places to scout and also hunt.

simple fix...switch hunting method...

i get a kick out of people crying about seasons and who gets what.

its not that hard to take up a new way of hunting and then you can hunt the seasons you want.

I would rather see us all work together to get the tag system fixed so if you don't get a special permit for say archery in one area, you can change your method and pick modern. Too bad we can't get organized to fix that system......

I'm in the same position Hoytstaffshooter83. The unit I scouted and hunted this year on the eastside isn't a late season archery option. I'm winging it and will have to pour over the maps and guess on an area based on topo prints and other mapping software. I won't get a chance to go check out the area.

If anyone has any good leads on late archery areas, I'm considering Rimrock, Little Naches and one other over that direction. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Is the Alkali GMU an area that is mainly private land? Havn't had a chance to jump on the WDFW mapping page yet.

This fall was the first year we headed over there and although we didn't harvest anything, it was productive in learning the area. Now we're back to square one with no time for scouting......   :'(

If I can't get time and logistics for a late east side hunt, I'd come along and help with packing depending on your schedule. I'll send a PM.

It still isn't clear to me... do you have an eastside or westside archery elk tag?

I haven't had any late season success yet on the east side yet.  I hunted the Nile one year and saw a few but had to wear out a lot of boot leather to do that.

You had mentioned Rimrock at one point... is that open for the late archery hunt?

I normally hunt early archery Packwood/Lewis River.  Day before opening day daughter got hurt playing soccer, kind of hard for her to tromp around woods with bow and crutches. Talk to coworker they said around Riffe Lake is pretty good. Daughter is off crutches now we are going south of Randle end of Month

Flasher52,

The Alkali is the Yakima Training Center.  All sage brush land and not that many elk.  There are some, but getting on and off the base is similar to Fort Lewis.  Stick to Rimrock, Nile, or Little Naches, but be prepared for the crowds. :bash:

I'm open to team up for an elk hunt. I have 21'st through 25 or 26 open plus weekends Fri Sat and Sun. I don't have a place yet, and am open to East or West. I'll drive my rig, Truck and camper and tow my jeep. Archery only.

I am assuming you haven't purchased a tag yet?  Because you are limited on east vs. west; you must declare when purchasing.

Question for DreamingBig-  When you hunted the Nile late season what was the weather like(snow?) and what dates(approx.)? I will be heading in that direction next week and(like alot of guys) I am winging it.
Any info appreciated.

Last year when I hunted that gmu there was a foot or two of snow during the week of thanks giving. It was like that the year before that too.

everyone complains about what they dont have, but look at harvest percentages and you see it is fairly equal. If I really only wanted to harvest an animal I would ML, If I wanted to party with the crazies and kill something I would Modern Rifle. Instead I like to take long quiet walks in the woods and see a lot of game and occasionally get a shot at an animal and sometimes even bring one home half eaten ( I love backstrap over the fire, heart and liver, slow broiled ribs etc.) I bow hunt. Longer seasons are set for weapons that dont have as high of a success rate. That is why they are the way they are. Hunter days to kill %. the only other consideration our wonderful game department has is how to seperate us from our $$$$. If your season is not long enough switch weapons or apply for multi tags. If 7 days is not long enough to find an elk you are hunting in the wrong spot.
