Show me some pic of Oregon!!
« on: November 13, 2013, 08:58:14 AM »
I need to keep my hopes up that I am in a place occupied by animals. Have hunted for three years and haven't seen a buck yet while hunting. Maybe I need to move... But to me, Oregon is awesome, even if I haven't shot any. Maybe the blacktails are all smarter than me!
Show me some pictures of your out of state hunts so that I am reminded that, yes, they do live here!  :hunter:  :hello:

Now that's what I'm talking about. Beautiful buck!! :chuckle:
Just saw five deer in my neighbor's driveway, but I didn't see any bucks. It was dark though, so I couldn't say for sure. Why are they never in my yard during deer season?  :bash:

That buck in the middle in the back is pretty cool. Has some funky face markings rather then the mule deer mask.

My 2013 rifle Oregon buck.

Haven't done alot of blacktail hunting in Oregon, but have spent some time in the Santiam unit and have chased around some dandy blacktails in the national forest archery hunting.

I'd give 5 muley bucks for 1 blacktail. Blacktail hunting is a challenge, that's what makes it fun and rewarding.

I'm on my way to Montana right now to chase mulies. I love glossing a lot of deer and hunting the more open country, but it's just not the same. To each their own, of course, but I'd stick to the west side and figure out how to hunt the heavy chocolate horned blackies.

There are tons of animals close to you.  There are some very nice blacktails in your area.  Lots of elk close by as well.

Wife's OR buck from this year.

I went over to her folks' farm to chase blacktails this year, no luck. They were there, just never could get a shot. So damn thick over there, don't know how you guys do it! Currently trying to fill my cow tag.

I am in the Willamette valley, just west of Eugene. I love it where I am at. I see lots of bucks all over the place, especially where I live on the Peninsula of Fern Ridge Reservoir, but during hunting season they become like ghosts! I am heading to the stand right now to try out some primos calls and if they work, then I will use them again on Saturday.. The opener!!  :hunter:

Our clearings are small openings where the brush isn't quite as thick!
Just used my deer calls for the first time. I used the primos estrus and grunt calls. I think I saw three, but they came in so close to dark, all I saw were three light shapes. I didn't want to have problems getting out of the stand, so I switched my call from young deer to trophy buck and that seemed to make them leave. Hunting season in two days!!!

Oregon does have some monster blacktails. I've heard the biggest are in California, though. Either that or Washington. Don't remember which...

nw-bowhunter, thanks alot. Pretty awesome hunts and some of the most beautiful rugged country I've ever hunted. Going back elk hunting 1st season rifle in 2014 with a group of friends in the same country.

I went to school in Eugene.  While I was there, my wife got her in state hunting license.  She killed both elk and deer within 10 or 15 miles of Veneta.  There are miles and miles of public land to scout around there and a lot of game.  I visited Eugene last weekend and caught some nice fish on the Siuslaw.  There are a lot of waterfowl options close by, along with good grouse and mountain quail hunting.  You have a ton of options right out your back door.  The area around Eugene really has a lot going for it.
