First wood duck
« on: November 14, 2013, 04:08:04 PM »
After all these years finally shot my first wood duck. Shot at about 15 yards. Beautiful bird and peters taxidermy has more buisiness on the way. Only bird of the day for me and brother shot a ring neck. Still very slow in my areas but hoping it will pick up. Saw very few birds but very happy.

He looked nicer on the back when I wiped him down. He looks a little ruffed in the pic but when cleaned up he was a beauty. Will be doing a standing pose for the best look.

I will but that might be a while. Takes time with my budget to pay it off but they work with me and do an awesome job.

Very pretty bird, I have been wanting one to hang on the wall sine I started duck hunting 3 years ago, its been a lucky year for me me as I got my first in Montana and my second on JBLM.

Nice work.  I carry 1 pair of pantyhose in my gear for just this reason.  I was told years ago after having a mallard taxidermied, that if you stick a freshly shot bird in a pair of pantyhose immediately after you shoot it, it improves the quality of the mount by keeping the feathers from getting scuffed.   (I hope this is true. Otherwise this guy's had a decade long practical joke on me.)

my brother uses a soft mesh type of bag that looks kinda like very large pantyhose for all his birds, works great so even if it is a practical joke its a good idea, guess joke will be on them  :chuckle:

That's what I've always been told. Didn't let the bird touch anything after the shot and brought it straight to the taxi. The only scuffed feathers were on wing from the shot which cleaned up decent and will be well taken care of by jo dean. She can do wonders with birds. Can't wait to see it done.
