Back from my first Montana trip
« on: November 16, 2013, 07:49:53 PM »
Well I got back yesterday from my first trip to Montana.  I knew I would like it but had no idea how much.  This place is seriously a hunters dream.  Without getting to into too many detail I will say that there were three of us in the group and we all filled our tags.  I saw many bucks I passed on and a few I wish I would have had an opportunity to get closer so I could shoot.  There are some very nice quality bucks out there.  I even saw a Moose cow with her calf at about 30yds, antelope, a bull elk I wish I had a tag for  :bash: bedded down with his cows at about 150 yds, and of all things a lamb up at about 7000 elevation which I believe was lost as I was way up in the mountains.  My buck we had spotted from the truck and he was probably 700 yds or more away.  Since I am not equipt to shoot confidently that far i went down a draw and back up to a rock outcropping and was able to get within 357 yds, aim a little high and let the .300 weatherby do the rest.  Boom down he went disappearing from my scope as he tipped right over and landed behind some rocks and sage.  We went to find him, gutted him out, and had him to the truck just as it was dark. This was a great experience and I will definately be going back, with an elk tag too this time.
