Equipment question
« on: November 18, 2013, 07:39:19 PM »
I'm planning on going archery next year. I've been watching a few archery hunting vids on YouTube and I'm noticing a lot of the hunters wear the camo rubber irrigation type boots, is there a reason for them besides being waterproof? Do they help hide scent when walking to hunting areas? Or is ur just a promo things?

Great boots for walking to and from a tree stand.
I put lots of miles on my boots when archery hunting.
Don't think they are meant for that!
Especially in rough country!

K that's kinda what I was figuring. What's a good price range to spend on a decent pair?

Keep in mind most archery hunting shows are hunted over food plots in the middle of flat farm country.

Your feet will hate you if you walk a few miles in those.  Plus, they don't breath. If your feet don't get wet from outside, they'll definitely get soaked from sweat. Hunting fields or short walk to the stand/blind they're probably great.  :twocents:

Your feet sweat because they can't breath.  then they stink.  then, when you take a step, all that stink and sweat smell gets pumped out the top as your foot moves around inside the boot.  Think of a fireplace bellows.

I wear some cheapies from Walmart and I like them but I hunt out of a stand. If you do decide to get them make sure they have good soles or you will feel every pebble everytime you take a step.

I've had good luck with rubber boots and I've hiked hundreds of miles in them. I used to wear them every day when I used to work in the woods and I didn't have an issue with sweat. I would wear them 9 months out of the year. Only in the summer would they be too warm. I had the Lacrosse Alphaburlys with 800 grams of thinsulate. I never got cold feet either, used them down to 25 degrees and in the snow. Sure is nice to never have to worry about wet feet. You don't want to do a lot of mounting climbing in them, but for a lot of your deer hunting, rubber boots are great. Just don't get the cheap ones. The good ones are $150 to $200.

I have  set of muck boots that I love to wear around the house when doing stuff in the cooler months. Decided to wear them out hunting once, made it about a mile and my feet were sweating so bad I might as well took them off and walked through a wet field. I just wear Irish setters with 800 grams of thinsalet in cooler weather, cold weather add a extra pair of wool socks and loosen the laces. Warm hunts have a set of Oakley boots left over from the army and love them.
