Late muzzy 2013
« on: November 15, 2013, 05:44:17 PM »
We will be headed down to kahlotous on the 20th.  Really looking forward to this hunt this year.  I have spent a lot of time in the field this year with the multi tag.  Passed on several decent bucks.  This is the first year in the past 10 years that I hunted deer with a rifle.  Man I figured out in a hurry why I don't hunt with a rifle any more.  Anyways just curious what others had going on.  Good luck to all!!

Very wide open country....one of those areas the WDFW "gives" to muzzle loaders in this corner of state to make it seem like they care about us.   :chuckle:   I'll be there regardless...
Tons of private land and posted up. Some written by permission signs but I think mostly for show as landowners always have some excuse not to give permission. Best bet is to get a map showing Federal lands such as BLM.
Help preserve Washington wolves.........send them to the taxidermist!!

you would be surprised they are usually pretty good at giving out permission.  Some aren't but you don't know until you ask.

I'll be in Kahlotus also...if I don't fill my tag there, we'll head up to Roosevelt. I am dedicated, until a big muley steps in front of me, to get a nice whitetail buck. I have spent the last 5 seasons hunting them. Maybe it will happen this year...

Keep after it man, they are there! I killed this one last year last evening, I missed a way bigger one that morning.

yeah, I know they are there. I grew up there. I have taken plenty of muleys in that area, just haven't shot a nice whitetail. Nice buck by the way...was he rutting at all?

I just found out I will have a few days off, so I will be headed up to 381 myself, wish I would have known sooner so I could get some better scouting/door knocking done. oh well.

Any local place in tri cities that carries decent maps that shows blm land etc.

None that I know of. Get on the Franklin County website and look at the assessor's maps. That is a good resource.

Well late muzzy on the east side didn't pan out. Saw lots of deer but not many legal bucks. Didn't get the weather and very little rut activity. Not near the animals this year. One again watched over and over people shooting from the road, truck, and on private ground. Just amazes me the lengths people go to for a doe and don't think twice about breaking the law. Well it's on to the blacktails next weekend.

I hear ya...ive hunted that unit for a long time (rifle and muzzy and bow) and since people can see deer from a mile away...thay get all amped up and make bad choices. We were hunting two days ago on some private land which we only had access to and someone was driving their rigs through crp up and down the draws. Its ridiculous.

Well I took it to the last minuite and ended up with a blacktail doe. My first doe. Not the biggest either. I had a great time in Raymond. Thanks Steve and Richard!

Way to get it done! First doe?? I think I have 12 under my belt.. They don't decorate the house nearly as well but look great in the freezer! :) Congrats sir.
I am not opposed to golf, for I suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering deer.

So do you think you will ever buy the deer mult-season tag again? I have been tossing it around for next season. Could use that money on a Idaho tag?

honestly I probably won't buy it again. The only reason I bought it was to be able to hunt with a rifle on the high hunt. Unfortunately I killed a bear in pursuit of the buck I was after. I was thinking after I killed the doe that it probably cost me around 2000 bucks. I'll be back to muzzy only next year. Well unless I draw multi elk. That tag is worth the cash. If I were you I would spend the money on Idaho
