I was hunting all day on late opening, saw zipoooooo got no clue whats up in 407. All the hunters I met were in same boat.
The deer are loving the weather and are staying out of sight. :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: going again on sat --dont feel good about this situation-- my barber said he had not heard good reports for the area.
Usually he talks to all the hunters who get cuts. :sry: :sry: :sry: :sry: :sry: :sry: :twocents: :twocents: :twocents: :twocents: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike:

They are in there. Hunt the thick stuff or timber bordering it. We were in 407 all day yesterday jumped a couple right at light. Into deer most of the day but couldn't catch them in the timber. This morning was better. Hunt slow or slower than slow.   :twocents:

I don't have nothing in my jeep to steel,, but some thieving idiot would cut into it all the same. I don't need no tweaker head up on the trophy wall,, heard they smell bad and the teeth keep falling out,, even when mounted.

Thats pretty funny, too bad it's so true.

Three of us hunt 407, and have been for the last several years.  Rifle, bow and muzzy seasons.  The one thing I've noticed every year, in every time period, these blacktail don't seem to be very consistent!! 'Couple of years ago we went out in a productive area after a bit of new snow (~2 in.), expected to enjoy an advantage for tracking. No dice. Covered several miles, morning and evening, and saw only one set of tracks. Seems that they hunkered down and stopped moving. Other times in that same area we would see several in a day.
My best tactic has been stubborn persistence!  Kinda hard to do in a short season.
Hunting- 99% waiting walking listening and looking, 1% stalking and shooting.  Just do it!

I was back at it awhile today,, it started snowing like mad,, then the hunters outnumbered the snowflakes. I hiked into the thick some. After a couple hours I was wet and frustrated, so I made the 15 minute drive home  :chuckle:

I'm thinking tomorrow I'd be better off goin up and setting up a coffee stand,,, get my money back for the deer tag I'm eatin this year.

Gotta admit,, even without seeing any deer,, I had a great time! Something that really bothered me tho,, is all the trash up there. I'm no kinda tree hugger,, pretty rednecky actually,, but what's with all the trash? A full beer can is only 12 ounces,, couldn't weigh 1 ounce empty,, so why the hell people gotta pitch 'em out? Same with drink bottles. I found one turnout where I was gonna hike in some,, and when I parked,, I saw that someone emptied a whole truckload of trash. This wouldn't have cost more than $12 or so to unload at the dump,, but someone had to drive it up the mountain and unload it there. Pathetic! Gives them stanky ugly hippies a pretty good stand when trying to take hunting away from us. I was trying to understand what kinda satisfaction someone would feel by taking the burden of that empty bottle or can off themselves when they pitched it,, but I just didn't get it.  :bash:
