New shotgun
« on: November 23, 2013, 05:26:52 AM »
I am looking to purchase a new shotgun. I have narrowed it down to either the new Browning A5 or the Benelli Super Vinci. I know a little about the Benelli but I do not know anyone who shoots the new A5. I currently shoot an old A5 that my granddaddy passed on to me for doves. I love it and it shoots like a champ. Thanks in advance. JJ

The new A5 resembles the old A5 in appearance only; the new A5 is gas operated while the old A5 is recoil operated with the famous double shovel recoil to the shooter. The Vinci is inertia recoil in operation; a large spring in the bolt is the heart of the system.

In reality, chose the gun that fits you best and appeals to your own personal taste as to looks.

You might want to look at the Super Vinci as to the location of the safety. They moved it forward on the trigger assembly unlike the SBE where it is at the rear of the trigger assembly. The A5 is at the rear of the trigger assembly as well. If you're used to the safety located in the front then the Super Vinci should be no problem. I've heard of guys getting them and then were not happy with the safety location and sold them.

actually, the "new a5" is an inertia gun, they copied benelli's action.  the thing that scares me about the vinci is that you can't swap barrels, while it's probably not the biggest practical consideration, it seems kind of odd for a shotgun.  that, and they're ugly as hell, but i've shouldered them and they have a nice feel to them.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Ultimately it will be the one that fits the best. That's a valid point about the location of the safety on the vinci. I have been reading a lot of about the jamming of the A5. I have heard great things about the Benelli SBE2. May look into that one as well! Thanks T-Bone, Badhabit, and BigGoonTuna.
