I work with UAVs in other countries, (Mexico, Canada, AUS, S. Africa, S. America.) We have the ability to collect data from almost anywhere. We can send the plane/helicopter from miles away and see what is just over the mountains or around a predefined area.

Question:
What are your thoughts on using this to spot game?
If you could track game days ahead of a hunt would you?
FLIR system installed and see where they are bedding?
Send out a UAV from home to check your bait.
Authorities using the same technology to keep an eye on hunters?
Should Outfitters be allowed to use them? Commercial applications?

Lots of issues to come.

US won't say or do anything on this until 2016, I'm Just wondering what your first thoughts are...

NO Drones! If a hunter can not find wildlife the traditional way then maybe they shouldn't hunt. As for LE using, only if there is warrant.

hunters using them no, that would take too much of the hunt out of it. as far as wardens using them could really do a number on poachers. But the price tag of a uav is high so I don't think they would be used at random, only once they are tracking someone.

Do not think they should be used on US soil, as much as I would love to see them used on people who hunt deer and elk at night, I just don't like the thought of it.

An animal rights group used drones to harass dove hunters recently. Dove hunters blew one out of the sky...lol.

I think I'd probably tend against it in public land, but wouldn't oppose their use on private lands.

BAD IDEA!!! Sure it would be great for poachers and they probably would start out using it on just poachers but then just like every slippery slope we hunters have had to deal with it would become a financial burden and they would find ways to use them against us. How about a citation for taking a leak in the woods? Or lets say you get stuck and need to spin a tire to get out. Drone see this and you get a ticket in the mail for not treading lightly. This is a horrible idea, I can't believe anyone would actually want this. The consequences far out way the advantages for the common man on this one.

Isn't the traditional way for a bunch of guys with dogs and/or fire to drive the animals through the forest?

Don't let the word drone scare you. A great deal of good will come from using them,and some bad sure, but the same with streetside cameras etc...
I assume there will be a division of those that have payload capabilities, and those that have no payload.
UAV use is not illegal. Using them for commercial use is... using them in various conditions is... (FAA rules) But I can get a helo or a plane from any hobby shop and use it.

I know you cant use aircraft for spotting and hunting game, but isn't that just for the same day?

I just wanted to get a feel of a few opinions... I'm very much a fair game hunt kinda guy... (hours of scouting, get away from roads, don't use bait/teams of hunters/dogs/)

I do think there will be a loophole and someone will try to exploit it.

(sorry about posting in ELK HUNTING but I don't really look elsewhere)

( if you have read this and want to argue, that is not my purpose... re-read it and pretend your grandmother is saying it...I may have not used correct grammar or mis-spelled a word, I'm on your side. Just want to know your opinion to help present it when the time comes.)

Deer trail Colorado has over 900+ applications/requests for drone hunting permits. Now that could be fun!

It sickens me to think that people are actually thinking this may be an ethical way of hunting. You may as well go raise the dang thing in your yard and put a webacm on it. When it comes into site, you can shoot it from your computer. Get off your arse and go find them.
If you actually think you could call this hunting, you may as well not call yourself a hunter.

For those who use game cameras, I suppose I could see a use for drones...

Instead of driving 50 miles to retrieve your camera's memory card, then driving 50 miles home to upload and view photos, you could just fly your camera equipped drone over your area, in the morning and evening...lol

okay now for my opinion.

I would hope that rules and regulations will prohibit using UAVs for any scouting or hunting purposes. As a Hobby its great fun.

Big brother issue will always exist. I don't want someone watching me, nor do I care what your doing in your own world.

But to be afraid to use this method to collect data is like being afraid of having a portable phone with photographic capabilities back in the late 70's.

The use of a UAV for farming, Mining, Logging, Minerals, safety, erosion, construction… etc Will be a great way to efficiently and effectively be utilized in cost cutting measures and increase production, and probably minimize a great deal of negative impact that occur in current data collection today.
Also during recent fires, a UAV could have been sent up, see where the fire is in real time, document wind and verify location and areas of concerns. All of that data could be sent to the dispatch and help with the logistics of using the air support for fire suppression.

I see more good than bad from regulated UAV use.

(sorry to have this in the elk section, prefer your opinions over fishing, wolves, bigfoot, varmint, for sale items, etc.)

To me it would be nice if you can't find your animal in thick brush . Install a heat seeking devise to locate your animal.
