Another newbie!
« on: November 18, 2013, 03:41:22 PM »
Man after reading through this thread and looking at some other sites, I don't think I want to get into duck hunting.

I have the dog!
I have two boats!
I have a shotgun!
I have the Camo just need chest waders!
I have a duck call, still practicing!

Even with what I have one boat is for pleasure, fishing, crabbing. The other boat is a Olympian that I am thinking about converting. Not hard for me as I know how to do the work. Just don't have the garage to do it in!

My 9yo has shown so much interest in hunting that it has kicked me into gear to get him out, but wow, so much involved. I think I will stick to my little lake out back and pop an arrow into one every once in a while!

It is what you make of it, don't let anyone tell you you need a boat, boat blind, dog, etc. to get into the sport.  You can shoot birds with a very minimal setup if hunting sheet water fields, heck you might not even need waders depending on where you hunt.  If you get hooked look out, it could get expensive! :chuckle:

Thats what I am afraid of!  :chuckle: I am headed in that direction but am thinking of putting a stop to it. Between money shortage, kids in sports and not enough time to get out, I do not want to get to many hobbies at once.

This year may be our last year for Modern Firearm as we are thinking of switching over to archery. Thats another expense all on its own!  :chuckle:

deltaops, It's only money and there's no better way to spend it than on hunting/fishing and the kids when they go w/ya.

Thats the best part about it, taking the kids out on the boat, camping, fishing, and hunting. Gets them out of the house and off the video games!

I guess I can always buy one or two things at a time and eventually get my gear built up. The next investment will be a 20 gauge for the boys.

I wonder if I can tap into my 401k..  :chuckle:
