Montana last day buck
« on: November 18, 2013, 11:53:04 AM »
Well after getting several suggestion from fellow Hunt-Wa members I planned a three day journey back to Montana.   I talked with Kazekurt and we met up and he showed my brother and I a draw to hunt on day one.

It snowed lightly on our first day and we sat in that draw for a few hours with just four does walking by me at 20 yards.  That afternoon produced similar results but we did catch a glimpse of a whitetail buck.

Day two we decided to hunt high and we hunted high.  Lots of snow and we followed several tracks but never did catch a buck.  We hiked in a gate that was close to the top and finally saw a buck.  He bolted so fast I couldn't even draw on him so ended day two.

We were loading up on our last day and Kazekurt told me I should bring a rifle just in case I couldn't get into bow range so I did.  We started hiking up the mountain right at daylight and just as we reached our glassing spot Kaze spots a deer right behind us.  I put my binos up and saw some spikes and said ok I will take him.  Kaze ranges the buck at 238 yards and I layed prone and hit him with my sons 243.  The buck spins and moves very slowly down the hill.  We watched him bed and we moved closer and I hit him one last time.  It was a awesome trip and one I hope to do again.  Thanks Kaze it was awesome.  First ever rifle kill for me and on our way out we had a massive bighorn sheep cross in front of us.
