WA Archery Rut Buck Video - Crushed at 10 yards
« on: November 28, 2013, 12:07:27 AM »
Got my WA buck down on day 2! Unfortunately, due to "operator error", the POV CamStrap footage did not quite get captured and I missed out on the best POV hunting footage to have ever been: it was noon with the sun at my back and a 10 yard shot with instant blood gush. I then had the camstrap off in no time and was zoomed in as he lost control and ate crap at 75 yards, then rolled down the hill and out of sight. That's about the time I realized the camera wasn't recording! Luckily, my brother had his CamStrap on and RECORDING, which he took off and zoomed in from 50 yards away for an awesome video. He missed out on a lot due to the lay of the land, but I am very thankful for what he got.

Alright, here is the video.

Good video.  Too bad that you missed the second angle footage.  That would have been a good one.  I did the same this year when I shot my elk.  I thought it was rolling, and after the shot I reviewed the footage to find that I had been recording and then hit record again turning it off before I drew back and shot.  :bash:
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

I bought a go pro this year. First day I had it I decided not to wear it and smoked a spike elk at 10 yds. Would have been cool video.

Thanks Thomas. Glad it was crystal clear, but I gotta say, "You should see the films right off the computer versus off of Youtube. They are much more clear, smooth, and higher defined. "  We hope to be coming out with a DVD of these short films in the near future.

Thats how it goes Griz. The time you say forget it is the time you wish you would have put it on. Chances are you will make the effort next time.

Wish we could put GoPro's on our bows

GoPros work well on a bow, but really only pointing back at the shooter. I have seen many POV films with bow mounted videos, and they are all crap. The vibration is too much, and the bow doesn't stay pointed at the target. You can see many shows on TV using them, but they rarely ever show the bow mounted angle because it is no good. They do however show the video that is pointing at the hunter. When shooting, the head is the most stable and controlable part of the body.

Also, you will see many shows with the hunter wearing a head mounted GoPro, but again will raely see the footage. The reason being the GoPro is not good for this application. It is a great little camera for its intended use (action sports), but where there is a focal point, it is just to wide and the depth is way off. If you can even see the target at 30 yards, it will look like it is 100 yards. This is mainly to make up for poor image stabilization. The only things it has going for it is it's size and the waterproofness. These are also the things that make it not work well for hunting as it is missing a lot of things you need such as a screen, zoom, etc... and the waterproof housing makes for horrible audio.

No matter what setup is used or how it is mounted, any video is better than none!
