thats what i thought but i dont know jack about trapping.  all i saw in it was some sort of bait carcass (bird i think? was dark in there) and a couple grouse feathers.  no cat.  the trap was set about ten yards from where i found a pile of grouse feathers couple months ago, and about 60 yards downstream from where i got some bobs on cam.  good spot for a bob setup if thats what it is.

The trapper might have had to leave for a few days and tripped it till he gets back.  I used to do that once in a while if I wasn't going to be able to get back and check it for within the required timeframe.

so i guess i shouldnt call the guy to let him know its tripped with nothing in it?    assuming the 7 digit number on the tag is his phone?

Speeding of numbers all I need is my trappers # on the trap correct do I have to include a name with it? I'm pretty sure I remember just the trapper # or the trappers name address and number one or the other.

Its best to stay outa there now, be respectful and leave it alone otherwise you can be cited for interfearing with a lawful hunt. I'm sure he doesn't want his set posted on the internet.....I'd be pissed if it were mine :twocents:

i am staying out of there, i am leaving it alone, didnt touch it.  and i didnt exactly post up gps coordinates for it.  so if you were pissed that would be your problem and you could be cited for being a whiney *censored*bag.  its a damned pic of a trap,. not info on how to find it.  :twocents:

Well if it is set and he's checking it like he's supposed to then he'll find out it's tripped soon enough.

Every 24 hours is the rule for live traps.

72 for drowning sets but of course that isn't a swimthrough  :chuckle:

The brushing in is decent on that set but I don't like leaving all that junk to interfere with the door and I prefer to have the back/sides protected by actual brush to prevent coons from reaching in or bobcats from investigating from outside the cage.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

So, what about finding a trap out in the woods? Pretty cool! How's that thing work? What's the bait? Ooh! the doors down. Is there something inside?
I know people are curious but think about it. The guy put the trap out to maybe catch a cat and you are not helping things by pokeing around, reading the trap tag, seeing what's in it, etc.
Think about it this way. If you were out hunting would you appreciate it if someone was curious about hunting and decided, I'll just tag along and see how this works.
Nothing wrong with being out and seeing a trap and takeing a look but please just leave it alone and maybe think about staying clear of the area out of common coutesy for a fellow sportsman.

what dont you guys get?  i didnt touch it, i am leaving it alone.  i happened to walk by it on accident, so i looked inside and read the tag without touching anything.  i was already right there next to it by random chance.  i didnt go out of my way to walk up to it and add scent , i didnt touch a thing or mess with anything, i simply read the tag on the trap i accidentally stumbled upon and then took a pic from a distance.  thats it.  and i posted a pic to see if it belongs to a member on here, i did not say where it is or in any way jeopardize this guys chances of success or his security of his set, so all you little internet police wannabes can get bent.  got nothing better to do than try to always tell people what theyre doing wrong so you can feel reightous.  guess what, i didnt hurt a damned thing on this trap, and i happened to walk by it on accident which would tell me maybe he should put them more off the beaten path.  get over yourself , no harm no foul

Points have been made from both sides. Let it go from here on out please.

I'm from Iowa. We use a lot of body grips and can trap along the road. When I see an animal while running my line along the road, I check the tag. If I know the person I let them know. If it is there the next day, I call the game warden. It isn't that I'm trying to get someone in trouble it is that it isn't fair to the animals and others trying to do the right thing. I've been bird hunting when my dog was caught in a foot hold for beaver, I snapped every trap on that damn and let the landowner now what we did. Again just to be certain that it was legal. I don't see anything wrong with what this guy was doing just trying to help someone out.  :twocents:

Deaner,

It's clear from reading between the lines on your original post that you pee'd all over the trap, rubbed your man scent across the trap door, set up flashing sirens in the clear cut and otherwise offended this set.....

On a slightly more serious note, I applaud you for not getting too worked up at the stoooopid assumptions some people make.

Thanks for posting it.   What were the GPS coordinates again?    :tung: :tung:

Well said Jackmaster! I pray that when someone finds my traps they do is take a picture, rather than screwing with it, destroying it or just taking it. There's no harm done with a photo. When I saw that it was Ken Reber's trap, I asked for a general location. He's a well known trapper around these parts and I'm always careful not to trap on top of him. Deaner Wouldn't even give me a general location out of respect for the trapper that made this set. You're good to go deaner..no worries here.
The mountains are calling, I must go.
