Pocket style: I really like my Ruger LCP

Holstered carry: I love my 1911 full size but I am looking for a compact 1911 to try out.

Keep in mind I am a big guy so concealing for me isn't difficult. Tell you what though it sure is nice when its hot out side and I can just throw the lcp in my front pocket with a pocket holster and pretty much forget about it.

I was pretty set on a Kimber solo, but then I held a Sig P938 and fell in love. Haven't found the one I want yet but I'm definitely leaning that way. If you don't want a pocket size or maybe a little more power like a 40 the M&P shields are pretty sweet.

walther PPK is good for conceal.  A little light for some.  For big bore a 1911 is slim enough to be a good full size conceal gun.

I Love my Kahr CW40! Single stack magazine, so a bit more compact.

I carry a Glock 27. My wife carries a Sig P238.
Check out a bunch and handle/shoot before you decide. There are so many options out there!

I carried my .45 XD for a year and it was like having a baby on my hip. I just got a Ruger LC9 and love it. Laser sight and fits in my pocket or an Uncle Mikes foam holster.

Check out the xds after we get the wife her lcr, I'm gonna pick up a 45 xds. My old man has one and they are so slim you can't till its there, couple it with a Remora holster and you're in business.

What's your budget?

What caliber do you want?

How concealable?

Pistol or revolver?

There are many different options based on your answers to the above questions.  A Kahr PM 9 is a VERY good concealed gun, but a little more expensive.  If you want a bigger caliber, the XDS 45 or the Kahr CW 45 are both very good guns for the money.

I carry an XDS 45 and really like it.  It replaced a Kahr CW40, which I really liked but wanted to go to a .45.

PPK or Bersa .380
There are some very dependable clones of the PPK that are quite affordable.

I usually carry a kel-tec .380 or a S&W j frame 38 Special +P, of the two I prefer the 38 as I shoot it better and it's lights out accurate. The 380 is smaller and lighter though and very easy to carry. If carrying OWB or open I have a Sig 226 in .40 that I like to carry, it's also good in a shoulder holster but then requires a jacket at all times to conceal.

FWIW I found XD's and Glocks to be very poky to carry due to shape and sharp corners, guns with rounded edges and corners are much more pleasant. Bersa, Sig and Walther for autos and S&W J frames for revolvers are all user friendly in this regard. Don't get me wrong, XD's, Glocks and S&W M&P pistols are all fantastic guns but they aren't very pleasant to carry.

I always put a carry gun where I intend to carry it prior to buying it, let the owner or store know you are going to do it so there aren't any misunderstandings and then do it! I have thought more than one gun would be ok until I put it inside my waistband or in my pocket etc. The corners that bite you without a holster probably still will with one or else they will be a lot bigger with enough holster to protect you from those corners.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

there are a lot of compact single stack 9mm on the market, my favorite of which is the Kahr K9, slender, all steel, 7+1 capacity.. these guns are a good balance of power, concealability, shootability, and 9 is cheaper than anything alse for practice ammo. If you like glocks consider also the glock 19 and 23(same size but .40) .. they are a good mid-size option, more concealable than full size guns, but pretty much full size in capacity and firepower.
