Thinking of trying the 101. Any suggestions
« on: November 24, 2013, 11:45:37 AM »
I usually hunt the 101 unit early season but am thinking of trying it over Thanksgiving for a white tail.  Can anybody tell me if the snow is gonna stop me or if many of the gates get shut in the area?  Any information will help guys, thanks.

Looking at the forecast I don't think snow is going to stop you..but then I guess that depends on what you are driving.... The wintering area gates won't close until 1 December.

It's dry with no snow in the forecast. Seeing a few does, but that's about it. My bucks that are coming into my feed come in at night. It's the same 4 bucks and the same 3-4 does.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Hunted the unit this weekend....the FS roads are actually dry and dusty = no snow issues. For whatever reason my usual places are not showing much activity this year.

The report I got from the relatives over there, is they were seeing lots of BIG BUCKS in the early season. Thinking of making the drive myself.
A bad day in the woods is better than a good day at work.

It's pretty discouraging how many guys are getting there gear stolen up there this year. I keep expecting to see my stuff gone every day. I have heard a few success stories around us but Nobody I'm hunting with.

Myself and a few other guys have had SD cards stolen from our cameras.... but whoever the thief is left his very nice Leica Rangefinder at the base of one of the cameras he stole an SD card from.... score a victory for the good guys ... hopefully the loser learns his lesson and decides to be a better human being.

Unfortunately the snow makes the stealing even easier. It's not too hard to follow a guys tracks to his set up and steal anything he finds. These thefts aren't going to show up in the local paper. Who are you going to report it too and what good would it do anyway? I know of at least 4 cameras and 2 stands that have been stolen in 101 since the opener.
