Montana Hunt
« on: December 06, 2013, 05:06:55 PM »
After a good deer season in WA with 4 out of 5 of us tagging out. I was fortunate to have the chance to head to Montana with my brother to join a friend and his brother about an hour outside of Missoula. We saw plenty of deer, not that many shooter bucks. We tried to get my brother set up on this one for a shot and he doubled backed and headed my way, didnt present my brother with a shot. So I put one in him off hand at 120 yds, he bucked like a mule and took a few steps before taking a dirt nap! We hunted hard for a total of 5 days, never got my brother on a good buck after that. A great hunt none the less.

Thanks Guys! It was my first Montana hunt, we will definitely be back. It was a cold one for sure 5 degrees every morning! Thank God we had a forest service cabin to stay in otherwise it would have made for a bit more work with walls tents etc!

Nice Montana buck! I have two sons that live near there that are not hunters, I have wanted to do a combo hunting and visiting trip over there but I have never been able to confirm that it is a good area. Did you see lots of deer, enough to keep it interesting?

Deer numbers were pretty good. I think if we were there a week earlier, like Nov 15th we would have caught more of the peak of the rut. And as usual just like anywhere we had to get miles form the truck to find good bucks. As far as elk in the area we were in it looks like it had good sign in Month's prior, it doesn't likely hold elk in the winter or the late hunt. Probably good for archery, etc! We were in the Lolo National Forest.
