Late Archery Deer

This is my first year back in Archery since I was a young kid, so I need a pointer or two. Late November/Early December is alot later than what I have done in the past with Modern seasons.

-Do the deer tend to be high, below snow lines like late Elk, or are they lower feeding. OR do they do the same thing as the early season and switch from High to Low and back at night?
-Thick bush, or more open areas?
-Is the Rut in play at all by Nov. 27th?

I don't need the "Figure it out for yourself" type answers that alot of people in here dish out. Since, if I was to get no pointers, I'd obviously be doing that anyway, like I always do...lol. Thanks to any advice!

The area you plan on hunting plays a huge roll in being able to answer any of your questions.

I am with Buglebuster on this... where are you hunting???  That will depend alot... but i know for black tails it's just being out sitting all day patiently. Blacktails kinda have thier own agenda... I would love to offer more advice...  i also agree alot of people who are bitter and not willing to help hunters i hate the "figure it out yourself" answers....

I didn't say where because all I ever hear is, "I'm not giving you my honey hole" crap. Fact is I have my own honey holes, just never been to them in the late season, so I am not sure if same rules apply as early (to a degree).

I'll be in the 437 Unit.

well.... in that case... i mean i understand i just brush off the nonsense people say... it's alot of the old timers that just like to hide stuff and not help us younger Hunters out.. i am 29.. and i hear it all the time.  In my opinion  the Forum is a place for people to seek help.  As far as where you are i know very little about GMU 437,  i hunt in 407 for late archery... but i know deer aren;t moving to higher elevations b/c lack of coverage.    The rut is pretty much over... so... most does are laying around and bucks are less active... i would say make an all day hunt.... During late archery... Deer are known to move during the warmest parts of the day, between 10am and 2pm.  The more mature bucks will still be out and about,  but during first light and right before darkeness falls...  I hope that helps a little this winter is supposed to be a little colder for this year, with more rain, go figure... so for black tails i would def hunt bad weather... ... I hope that helps out... any other question let me know.

Deer typically gather in all the same spots they gathered to rut for your late buck modern seasons.
If snow is too deep in those areas you will find them down the ridge at a lower elevation.

That's my advice.
And stay out of my honey hole.

If you can find a pocket with a 2nd cycle doe you will be in business.  In the 437 a lot of the does higher in the unit do not get bred during the first part of the rut.  This has been my experiance. Might see ya up there. Good Luck

Good to know, When I was up there for Early Archery/Bear I came across 17 total deer in 3 hours of tooling around on the roads, looking for a good entry for the following day. However, I took my buddy to the same road system during Modern, to see if he could get as lucky and the gate was closed. It wasn't locked, but I would rather not be locked in, especially during the cold season. Looks like we'll definitely be earning anything we come across. Glad I got familiar with the road system before they decided to close it off like the greedy *censored*s they are. I really need to just buy a trail bike...
