Depending on the geography of the clear cut and how tore up it is(piles or trees you might be able to hide behind).
Ide say stick to the outside also and work a stalk around them. If they move to one side just remember the wind and work your way till you can get an advantage over them. I personally like hunting from above on deer in clear cuts than coming from below them. I think coming from below them unless you can hide and stay out tends to give off to much overall movement which most those deer will see from a mile away.
Other nice thing to remember is that if you spook the deer early stay back out of the picture (deer are dumb they will forget)and remember where they came out. Most likely they will come back out or a different deer will follow. And remember if you see those deer again you might just get lucky and have buck come out eventually also. I like to pattern does towards the end of season cuz they are very predictable like WT.
