where to get a good black lab pup for hunting?
« on: December 11, 2013, 10:30:20 AM »
anyone know of where to look into buying a black lab pup? my dad is a serious pheasant hunter and unfortunately lost his yellow lab yesterday... the dog was getting a drink out of the walla walla river and wouldn't get out of the water as my dad kept calling for him to do so. the dog was sucked under the ice by the current... weve lost all 3 of our yellow labs in the last 6 months. 2 to old age and now this. my dad has always been a huge fan of the black labs and id like to look into getting him a pup with a good hunting blood line. we raise pheasants and chucker so having the birds to train a pup wont be hard to find.

WOW that is horrible. Very sorry for the loss of your dad's dog. There are a lot of threads on here with good breeders but I would check with Long Hollow, Ireland, Tiger Mountain... My uncle owns Conway Kennels and they have a few litters per year. I could check with him or you can contact them too.

Second on Ireland Farms.  Very nice dogs and great dispositions.  He has another litter from the same sire/dam as our pup due soon.  We love our pup - she is extremely trainable, sensible, has an amazing work ethic and is an excellent family dog to boot.

I know that Ryan at Longhollow has a nice litter of all black pups on the ground right now.  Not sure if they are all spoken for not but they looked like a nice bunch of new pups.
