Late archery blacktail
« on: November 28, 2013, 03:49:20 PM »
Same ol, same ol' hunting locked down deer.  I've learned this lesson from years past, IT'S REALLY HARD TO KILL BT BUCKS IN THE LATE ARCHERY SEASON.

On my way in from my stand today I checked 3 cameras that I was seeing very regular buck and doe activity at through last week. I had zero pics. Total lock down! Last buck I've had on any cam was on the 22nd in the middle of the day.

15-1/2 hours in the stand so far this late season. I'm ready for the mental marathon that goes along with trying to kill one off these creatures.

How's everyone else doing?

Same story. Seen nothing but the occasional spike that feels like I should take a chance on but know as well if I do, I can miss my chance for the big one! Seeing only a few does as well.

I talked to two different buddies today and they both saw bucks that were rutting.  Maybe 2nd cycle does?

:yeah: I have been chasing bucks that were all alone and now they are starting to get back with the does. So I think the 2nd cycle here is going on now.

I hope it last for a week or so yet. Cause if it's in again we need it! That or some weather!

On thanksgiving morning i had a nice 3×3 come 35 yards from me with a spike and a younger deer. Long story short they came in on me and i missed the 3×3 wasnt to upset about it all untill i hunted the whole next day and didnt see a single deer.

I've had 20 hrs in 2 diff stands so far this late season and have yet to see a deer. Decided to abandon the stands today and hunt from foot for a 3\4 day hunt. Found some very big rubs from October and found a nice rub line that was fairly fresh with fresh track on the trail.

Problem is it's a 4 mile bike ride then a 1/3 mile pack down through timber and blow down to get there.

I spent over 35 hrs in stand before I killed my buck, if your not against baiting it sure makes a HUGE diff.. I never go a day without seeing deer.

I've spent about 30 hours in the stand so far... No deer yet. But the rain moved in so my hopes are high for tomorrow!

Yeah I am glad I didn't hunt one of my stands today the weather just didn't quite get bad enough to make it worth while. Tomorrows another story with the weather so it looks like it may be a good change.

Regarding the baiting...I'm not against it. I've never had deer ignore apples like they are this year, I have apples in front of 4 cameras for a week and I have had zero pics of deer eating the apples and the apples are untouched. These are in spots where i was seeing good deer activity the Prioir two weeks with no bait. The only thing I can figure is that they are in full breed mode locked down with does but I got a picture of a doe walking by and ignoring my apples on the 27th which is the only deer I have seen since in person or in person.

It's funny, all you want to do is kill a deer than when the season is over you have to figure out what to do with yourself! The longer the hunt the sweeter the success!

This morning as I was driving into my spot just before light I saw a real nice buck in the road, he was jigzaggen from one side to the other with his nose to the ground and didnt seem to care that I was sitting there in my truck watching him, after about a full minute he finally wondered off into the reprod.  Must have been a late breader he was smellen. But of course it was dark and all I could do was watch :bash: I too saw nothing today except for that one while it was still dark.
To God alone be the Glory!!
