My little hunting buddy and I connected with a good size rooster pheasant today. Pretty exciting for him and me!

Nice. You better plan on spending some money on that boy because he is going to be hooked on birds now.

Thanks everyone! My son and I were going to go up to Springdale to try for a fall turkey on that day. With all the freezing fog, and ice, I called off that trip. My son was crushed, as he has been talking about turkey hunting for a while now. So, we went to hockey practice and went out hunting not far from home on some public ground after lunch. I was sure glad the good Lord gave us this rooster, as it made all of us very happy. "Buddy" is a 5yo chessy. He is really starting to catch on to upland hunting. Abby, is an 11yo chessy, she is an old vet when it comes to hunting. She was pointing best she could at this rooster as we approached. The bird flushed about 5 feet in front of us. Abby cant see or hear very well anymore, but her nose still works and she can still leap into the truck. We take Abby when we know its not gonna be an all day hunt.  Here is a pic of Abby, Buddy and my boy from Thanksgiving with a few quail.

That is certainly building good memories with your kid.
