why so many used Vortex scopes for sale lately?
« on: January 05, 2014, 09:38:36 AM »
Has anyone else noticed that there are a ton of used Vortex scopes for sale lately? Specifically, it seems like a ton of people are selling their PST scopes.

A buddy of mine is looking for a tactical style scope to put on his 308 and the 4-16 PST is one of the ones that he was interested in. I've looked through a few Vortex scopes but I've never owned one so I couldn't give him much of a personal opinion of the brand. I was considering picking up a 4-16 PST to try running on the 300 RUM Striker but ended up with another VX-3 LR in 4.5-14x50. I just get nervous when I see the Vortex PSTs, which everyone was all over for a while, saturate the used scope market.

I have not seen that many more for sale then say the last year or so.  I personally just see them getting more popular which means more out there that people sell to upgrade and what not.

Just a though but, maybe they are trying to raise the money for health ins! :chuckle: I think if I were in the market for a new scope, I'm not, I would look at them. They seem to have a lot of satisfied customer's. If it was a new brand, I wouldn't look.

There's a lot of used everything for sale lately. Used Leupold, vortex, Swarovski, etc.
People go through gear like they go through underwear.

For me........the PST is too busy for a hunting scope. Now the HST, thats another matter.....I could use that one nicely.

Alot of guys jumping on the long range concept, and I think its influenced alot of guys to buy hunting scopes that arent primarily hunting scopes....

The HST is a nice scope. Ordering one of the 4x16x50 HSLR's tomorrow from Elknut. Was seriously considering a PST but after talking to him decided against it. Agreed it was "busy"

I was wondering if this was the case. People buying the Vortex PST and then realizing that the reticle is a bit much, and going to the simpler HS line.

I should say, I wasn't out to trash Vortex. I still plan to try one as soon as I find the right setup to match the scope.

Not at the moment, but if I get bored with this one I'll let you know! ;)

You should just pick up the Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50 that Optics Planet has on sale for $1359 right now. I almost did it, but went with the VX-3 instead. The Nightforce is just so heavy it wouldn't make sense on a sleek, 6.5# 300 RUM handgun. :chuckle:

Been a general rise in long range interest.
Vortex is a quality scope.

I feel 4 things are happening.
1) Most dudes are realizing you can buy all the gooch you want, but if YOU cant shoot.... Neither can the gear.
2) Dudes are realizing that they prefer x over z, and vise versa.
3) Dudes are also realizing you cant put race slicks on a geo metro and win the Daytona 500.
4) Dudes learn and grow, and upgrade their gear.

Either way, if you watch shooting matches, you'll see a lot of Razor HD's, bushnell's and nightforces...
Not a lack in quality, as much as a shift in intrest  :twocents:

All I can say is, if you want a good deal on Vortex scopes. Check out the "Optics Classifieds" over on SnipersHide. There's a truck load of them for sale. All I can say is I tried them, owned two and they were both sold in short order.  My rifles eventually forgave me and I slept better.

I'm retired Andrew and I can't afford $1300 + for a scope, let alone a $700 gun or two.............

agreed! Not anymore then any other brand out there for sale..some are for sale because they are more scope then they may need, others may be upgrading to the Razors..that is the trend I see..
That Sword is more important than the Shield!
