I got over my fear of getting sprayed and watched a civet when I gave him the CO2 today. He was a big male and very active. When I stood the trap on end he held on and was sticking his nose out through the cage in the door.
I have been cracking the valve and counting to 30. The civet was unconsious today when I hit 20. I left him in for 10 minutes because I'm afraid of them coming back to life in my PU but I'm thinking now that is extra long.

Cool design Bruce! Congrats on the catch. I have yet to get my first anything this year! :dunno:

I am just trapping on the property, but I would think I would at least get a coon! Grats again!

Was just on the phone with Sunnyslopes last night and complaning about the complete lack of beaver where I am trapping. So what happens? Bring this load home today. Nobody will believe anything I say any more.  :chuckle:
Even got a grouse with the trapline pistol. Pretty much a miracle as it is accurate out to about 6" :chuckle:. It's what's for dinner, tomorrow.

I remember the trap now. Great design but looks like a lot of work, all those round parts  are not easy to fabricate. Glad I don't have civets!

Skinning has not been easy. I put some stuff in the freezer whole. I think I will regret this in the future. I had to skin the stuff last night though. Beaver and civet were Ok but the otter I had a hard time with.

Not sure about the loosening up theory but this morning was not good.

Not a lot of traps out and been slow anyway. Then today a real event.

Fisher!
This may be the first fisher trapped in WA in 40 years. I haven't heard of anyone else getting one anyway.
Forgive the poor photography. Only one very good picture.

I missed it takeing off when the door was opened. I'm never fast enough with the camera. Ouchfoss was with me though and he videoed it. Maybe he can figure out how to post it.

No damage to the trap as you can see and it was pretty easy to release. I was worried it might be feisty as I have heard of their reputation. In fact I put a blanket over the trap for a place for it to hide when I was opening the door and it wouldn't leave until I removed the blanket.
It was smaller then my first impression. I'd say the size of a small otter and close to that shape only a lot longer fur. Black tail and gray face, pretty black body but with a trace of brown.
