Messing around in the reloading room today.

I decided to take the time and form some 7x57 Mauser brass from 6mm Remington W-W brass. I ran the 6mm brass through my 7x57 FL die with a liberal amount of Imperial Wax inside the neck and out. Primed them with some Federal 210 Match. Gave them my accuracy charge for the 7x57 brass loads(48.3gr H4350) then seated a Hornady 139gr Interlock on top and took it out to shoot it.

For the first firing I was impressed, same point of impact and same little group as my 7x57 brass loads. I was going to try it with some of my .257 Roberts cases but decided I have way more 6mm than .257 Roberts but I guess it's all the same anyway. The cases came out about 0.017 short of the recommended trim length which is good to go in my world.

Last year I necked up a bunch of 270 to 35 Whelen. I used them for Load development, but after the initial firing most of the necks split.

That's quite a jump from .277 to .35.  Did you anneal the brass first?

Both, I started out with a 100 pieces of 7x57. Over the years I have lost some while hunting Coyotes & Rock chucks. I have probably 10 firings on them. Annealed the cases last loading. So boredom drove me to the 6mm stash. I'm used to working ALL THE TIME. This may sound strange but 4 days off and it's freaking me out!

If you need to put a 5/8-24 on a 1/2-28 thread, you can get a thread adapter from PRI.  But you probably already knew that!

I also prefer W-W brass for the 7mm Mauser and it's very hard to find in bulk these days.

Yes I did. It might have just been weak brass. I don't know how many times it was fired. Like you I was just messing around, trying something new. At the time I had 100 new Whelen brass. Thats all I use now.

I used .375 Ultra mag brass for my .450 Ultra Magnum. I would just neck it up. Shoot a 500gr bullet at about 90 percent of full house and the load them as full power loads. I got ahold of a bunch of BELL .404 Jeffery brass. Decided to give them a try in the .450 Ultra.

I fire formed the .404 BELL brass with pistol powder and cream of wheat. Trimmed them to length loaded them full house, the same load as the .375 Ultra necked up and the bell brass performed better, lasted longer and was more accurate. No need to do it but boredom and tinkering does have its upsides.

Yes I did. It might have just been weak brass. I don't know how many times it was fired. Like you I was just messing around, trying something new. At the time I had 100 new Whelen brass. Thats all I use now.

Just wondered.  Years ago I had a bunch of 30-30 brass that was so springy, they wouldn't hold a bullet after resizing.  It helped to anneal them.  There's an amazing difference in brass!  I necked down a bunch of 6.5 Grendel brass to .20 cal. and I average 1 in 50 split necks.  Predictable and expected there...
