I wasn't going to elk hunt this year but a friend invited me to join him Saturday. We saw no deer, no elk, one grouse. He couldn't hunt today(Sunday) so I went alone. Saw one deer, then 4 limping hoof rot elk. Snuck to 150 yards, took the best shot opportunity at 128 yards slightly quartering away. I had a nice rest on a flat stump, sitting down. Boom! She just stands there. Binocs, reload, Boom! She just stands there. Binocs, reload, Boom! She still just stands there. I think.... sighted in at 92 degrees on dry day, rainy and 45 degrees today. I adjust rear sight up 5 minutes. Binocs, reload, Boom! She still doesn't move! I look longer with binocs and see at least two lung hits. OK, wait for it, wait....wait....wait....wwaaiiittt........crash!
Hit all three shots, two low in lungs, one up high. Recovered top bullet in far hide. Mushroomed well. Shooting the White Super 91 .451 with No Excuses 460 grain lead.
Called friend and he decided it was early enough he could help and still do what he had planned.
Good year! 3 deer and one elk in freezer(soon).
Sorry for cruddy pics, my phone needs to be donated to a museum!
